Just read the following on Dibb Site, source apparantly was a FC representative. Anyone know if its true?
"Just been told that the Gatwick to Orlando route is using aircraft switched from Heathrow. This is to allow the seating to be refitted on the usual planes.
Am I right in thinking that these Heathrow planes are pretty good and this is a bit of good fortune?"

That clip is (historically) true, and still appears to hold for many flights ex-LGW.
And in terms of it being good fortune - absolutely yes!
Firstly, FAR superior IFE.
Secondly, less PE seats (more Upper Class) = Op-Ups for many PE passengers... [:w]

If this is long term and predictable I wonder whether VH will repeat the "pay for PE return and get a free one way upgrade to UCS" offer they made to FVC members for the period when an LHR config 747 is serving the LGW-BGI route ?

Gill I also read that post - I'm a bit doubtful about the staff's advice TBH.
The poster had also been told that it is impossible to change their seats on line 24 hours before travel at OLCI too.

It would also be odd [but a nice change for those of us who fly on LGW/MAN routes] for VS to be upgrading the LGW/MAN fleet before the LHR fleet that flies the lucrative business routes is fully upgraded to the new PE / Y seating.

No I think what they mean is that the Heathrow route has already been re-fitted, but whilst they re-fit Gatwick route they would borrow some heathrow fleet whilst it was taking place. Maybe a crew member could answer and put the record straight.

I think what is happening is that a few of the LGW/MAN/GLA A/c are due in the hanger for Major checks and that there are LHR A/C covering routes at LGW.
I have heard nothing about LGW A/C being refitted. I know the LHR 747s will have more J class and W class seats soon but not heard that about the LGW A/C I maybe wrong and if anyone knows better please correct me.

They definitely have an opportunity to do a refit/maintenance over the next few months without using LHR aircraft as there will be no VS27/28 Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday between 10th and 29th September. Also no VS27/28 between 14th-31st January '08.

Trying to do some rough calculations in my head, but I think a couple of the LGW 744's are due D checks in the next year or so, could be covering for them.

After looking at the post on the Dibb referred to by Gill, I think the staffer was definitely having an 'off day'.
He's now posted again to say that the same person told him that he couldn't change his seats within 24 hours of departure (as I posted above) but also that it is the airports authority to change them and not Virgin's.
I would think he has been misinformed on all counts.
