According to this report the flight had already left before the incident

As I noted in the replacement topic for that one (http://www.v-flyer.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19917), the flight actually took off at 15:17 which was just after the incident.

I have subsequently seen statements saying that the incident officially began at 15:11. This suggests that the airport was aware of the incident before VS071 had taken off. VS071 had however begun its taxi before the incident. VS071 was either permitted to leave because it had already taxied or perhaps it was for business reasons that it was allowed to go. Suffice it to say, those were some VERY lucky holidaymakers. I would be extremely interested to hear if the pax were informed of the incident after take-off or if it was decided to keep the information until landing at MCO.

Annoyingly I missed the first VS flight out of GLA... so I was determined to see this one. The official report about the first VS flight stated that it left on-schedule. I highly doubt that. [:o)] That 2nd one was almost an hour and a half late.

All seats sold on all this summer's flights from GLA. VS have increased the number of departures for next year of the back of the positive response..:D

Virgin Holidays site currently shows following dates for Glasgow next year:

Departing on Fridays and Saturdays from 04, 05, 11, and 12 April '08.
20, 21, 27 and 28 Jun '08, 04 and 05 Jul '08, 03 and 04 Oct '08.
Departing Saturdays only on 12 Jul '08 and 11 Oct '08.

Will there be more then or does this list already include the increased number? Cannot believe they only have 3 flights in July (4th,5th and 12th) We are travelling to Orlando on (or around) 19th July next year and would be ideal if there was a flight then!

Thanks

Grebo

I think the problem is lack of VS metal, there's simply not enough A/C to cover many more LGW/MAN & GLA flights.

Thanks for info James. Maybe once the new 787s come into play some of the older metal will be moved to GLA (or maybe even EDI!!)

It was mentioned somewhere that there are going to be the usual 2 different seat configs for the VS B787's (LHR high J config and LGW/MAN/GLA high Y config) so you will probably see VS B787's at all VS departure points at some stage.

What do you mean by slack? There is no slack in the LGW/MAN fleet (as we have been led to believe) as the a/c are worked very hard.

If you mean slack with regard to bookings then I doubt it. LGW/MAN are constantly sold out for the school holiday services. Scottish schools do holiday earlier than their peers south of the border but LGW-MCO and MAN-MCO during June/early July have very healthy loads due to families with pre school kids and privately educated children and parents taking children out of school for holidays.

I personally cannot see a situation where VS operate MAN-MCO 6 days a week for the whole year except for the weeks when Scottish schools are on holiday due partly with the above two points and also brand image which always suffers when carrier operate odd schedules (BMI transatlantic and the farce with IAD for example!).

I'm still seeing a good few seats this year if anyone is interested in buying. Lots of Upper and Premium this Saturday. 14th July showing as full Economy availability. I wish I could go. Not been to Disney for ten years now.

It's not just selling the seats, it's the price they sell them for!!! Anybody bought a package from GLA??? How does price compare to LGW/MAN???
