APD - Still Being Collected?

Anyone know the answer. The answer from VS on the phone in the US was no, but then she didn't know what it was in the first place. Certainly there are no mentions of APD on the US or UK version of the VS site, and a search turns up pages that are no longer displayed.

I'd be very surprised if they aren't still collecting it. No official people asking for it, there was just a note against our booking when we were checking in and the agent clearly marked on our boarding cards that it had to be paid so we wouldn't have been able to board without doing so.

As you say there is nothing on the VS site about APD now so maybe an email to FC or just be prepared to pay it and if you aren't asked, then lucky you!

I seem to remember VS brought in APD early 2007, so there will still be VS tickets in circulation that do not include the APD.

APD collection will probably stop 11-12 months after it started so I would imagine it will be collected for most of 2007.

Edit to add - just found this press release issued Jan 26 about APD sayiing it would be introduced from Feb 1st 2007 - so yes they will still be collecting it for tickets issued before Feb 1st.

Regards

When we flew out of Heathrow in April we were not asked to pay the APD for tickets we bought pre the tax rise.
We didn't pre pay and we were in the clubhouse before we realised we hadn't been asked for it:D.
My advice would be not to pre pay and see what happens at check in.

I will have paid it on DW's ticket, finally issued yesterday, but maybe I will quiet and see how far I get. It's just weird that they have removed all reference on the site, or maybe it only pops up at OLCI.

Don't think it appears at OLCI stage, well it didn't for us, knew I had to pay it but only mentioned when at the airport check in.

APD for tickets purchased before the Dec announcement last year is no longer being collected - its been removed from the website and the airport collection staff are no longer present.

When was this announced? Do you have a link/source?. We still had to pay it at the end of June, just because there are no collectors at the airport we just had to pay at the ticket desk.

I'm not sure if an official announcement was made as it was an internal decision based on outstanding tickets/percentage already collected; pretty much all APD had been paid so it was no longer necessary to collect it.

Thanks RJD. I am going to keep quiet, though in a moment of rare efficiency, unheard of when actually complaining about something, VS customer service got back to me, to say I should pay any of the reservations agents on the phone or at the airport. They got back to me within 24 hours! Most of the time they never bother so I guess I should be grateful. Of cours it was one of their phone agents who had no idea what I was talking about, so maybe I should try and get the same one.

Re APD-- has anyone redeemed the 20/40 pd vouchers given during the period when you could pay yr APD online? Not sure how to use them if booking on line rates as the directions expressly say that they can only be used with phone or trav agent bookings?

Thanks,

I booked a sale fare by 'phone for my husband a couple of weeks ago. They booked the ticket as normal but wont send out the e-ticket until they've received the voucher.

I sent the voucher by recorded delivery and the e-ticket was issued in a couple of days with the reduced cost taken from my CC at the same time.

Thanks Jilly--so you were able to book the same web fare by phone?
It's interesting that the language for the refund is directed only for UK locations--
