Whilst no concrete evidence has been found to confirm or deny this, that fact alone just reinforces what I think we all sort of knew anyway.

He was a true pioneer, and whereever he may be may he rest in peace.

That the search for Steve Fosset had been called off

Shame to see Steve Fossett go out in this fashion. I did join in the on line search (needs Flash) and must say, given the terrain and the lack of absolute knowledge of his flight plan, I am not at all surprised that nothing has yet been found. I truly hope he died swiftly, if indeed he is dead, not in terrible pain through injury.

The world and the aviation world in particular has lost one of the great adventurers.

There was a report out here a couple of days ago that said that during the search they had found 7 aircraft crash sites that were previously unknown.

The terrain in that area is rugged to say the least.

If Fossett had not been the celebrity he was, the resources brought to bare wouldn't have been anywhere near as great as they have been and these lost aircraft would, undoubtedly, have been lost for many more years. Let us hope these finds have brought closure for some families who have been concerned for the fate of their loved ones.
