Paid upgrades from E class

I forgot to mention in my last post when I asked about paid upgrades from Y to PE that I'm on an E class ticket. Does anyone know if VS permit paid upgrades at the airport from E class? I hope they do.[:I]

Hmm... As an E class ticket is a "Staff Travel" type of Economy fare, my "gut feel" would be no - as they're restricted and regulated by Virgin's own internal rules. Having said that, I've never used one myself so I'd take that with a large pinch of salt. [:I]

Free Y tickets won in competitions can also be booked in E class, as were my prize tickets from LHR-HKG. Such tickets are always never upgradeable.

Thank for the info. Can't really understand why any airline would turn away extra revenue!! They obviously don't need the money.

They may let you pay to upgrade your ticket to a bucket within economy that is upgradeable, and then pay again to upgrade to PE or UC, but I would suggest that if they did that, it may work out cheaper to buy a new PE or UC ticket.

All you can do is ask The worst things they can do is say 'no', or try and charge you an exorbitant amount for the upgrade.

It's half term and the flight LHR-NRT is getting very busy, 200 out of 225 sold in Y and only 9 left in PE, so can't imagine there'll be much bucket seats left to sell on the day. Think we may have to check in at the crack of dawn and try for the emergency exit row for the extra dosh. Do VS hold back the emergency exit seats for FC members?

No.

The allocation of exit rows in Y is a mystery to me. I have arrived at the airport early on a fair few occasions, to find that there are none available.

Checking in early can't hurt, though - I may just have been unlucky.[:?]

Good luck with it.
