Just a quick topic to ask if anyone has been on a transatlantic flight this month with either odysee or nova system & what films where showing as Virgin's web site now only shows a selection from V.Port
Many Thanks

Spooky, I had someone ask me the exact same question today at work, as they are doing a MAN-MCO flight.
I assume that the non V-Port systems have some of the more recent releases and more popular blockbusters that we see on V-Port, but it would be nice if we could see listing for all systems.
Surely it isn't that hard to adapt the web pages? [?]

Hmmm,
I came over to NY yesterday on an Odyssey a/c, lets see if I can remember all the titles.
Shrek 3
SpiderMan 3
Pirates of the Carribean 3
Die Hard 4.0
Harry Potter 5 (aka Order of Phoenix)
Oceans 13
Waitress
Breach
Eagle vs Shark
Knocked Up
Surfs up
Wind Chill
They are slightly different on the inbound.
Also the TV has a double bill of the US and Polar specials of Top Gear which I highly recommend.

I asked the question of VA why no help for the Gatwick 747's and this is the response I got:-
"Many thanks for your feedback concerning the above, as v:port now makes up the majority of our a/c we decided to base the A to Z listings on this system, this also gives us the opportunity to display our offering of over 50 movies. That said we appreciate your comments about the Odyssey and Nova systems and the fact that if you're on one of these aircraft then your selection will be much reduced compared to v:port and you can't see exactly what will be available on the website. We did look into displaying our seatback guides on the website as PDFs however at this moment in time due to cost this is not possible, we are however going to look into this again in the near future. Please let us know when you're next travelling and we will be more than happy to email you the movie line-up.
Once again thanks for your feedback."

Not displaying PDFs dues to cost? Hemmm, scan, load onto website. Total time < 1 hour. Skill level junior. Sheesh they MUST be strapped for cash.

I think that's a very poor response and maybe if enough people emailed for the exact listing each month they'll find it more cost effective to display details on the website as Decker suggested

If your flying on a NOVA Aircraft chances are you will not see a movie. We have having major problems with finding spares to fix the IFE and the A/C are being dispatched with some seats and zones with no IFE.
Just a warning so take plenty to keep you entertained. The A/c with the problems are bei ng put on routes that that are not fully booked.

Ouch! Cheers for the advanced warning, VITB.

Thanks for the info VITB. Is this likely to be a long term problem or just for a sort period whilst parts etc are sourced?

And is the UCS cabin affected please.

Could these problems spell the end for NOVA? Surely, if the parts are becomming less and less avaliable, they will finally have a good reason to up[grade the IFE on the NOVA planes...

All the broken parts have been sent off to Seattle to be fixed so they can be used again. It may take a while yes and its affecting all cabins. Some seats are working some are not.

I can attest to this, read the recent Las Vegas flight reports.

Time to now ditch Nova I think.
The cost of continued repairs must be stacking up and making the expensive V:Port option look more and more attractive now.

If you are unlucky enough to get an UC seat with broken IFE, does anyone know if the laptop power port on the seat still works?
I can cope without the IFE (& will take whatever miles they offer as compensation) as I can easily amuse myself with better IFE on the laptop. If the power port is not working, I would be stuffed after a couple of hours when the battery dies. Anyone know how linked together the IFE & power ports are?
Hopefully, this will not be an issue as one of the VS staffers said they are using aircraft with broken IFE on routes that are not busy. My outbound flight in a few weeks is completely sold out.
Thanks
James

I would have thought that you should be OK using the lap-top socket even if the IFE doesn't work.
In the past I've had to ask for the lap-top power to be switched on even after the IFE was already up and running so I think they might be seperate.
The back-up DVD players VS give out in J when the IFE isn't working also use the lap-top power sockets.

Gee with half term next week I bet the MCO will see all Odyssey a/c.
TBH all my recent flights have been with Nova and it really isnt that bad. The crew on all my flights have started the movies pronto and got in a good 4 showings.
No its not AVOD- but unless you are in the loo or at the bar really there isnt a reason to miss the start of a film. The selection on offer is just as good as on other carriers with AVOD (DL for example).

Also dont forget many airlines still dont offer seat-back screens in their cabins.
I'm flying UA in a few weeks and I beleive they still only have drop down screens around the cabins on their B744's [:?] The flight is only 3.5 hours so will take a book and my iPod with me.

My regular trips to Denver are on 777s with UA, and they have the seatback TVs, I do hear from my Australian colleagues that UA still do not have planes with seatback TVs on the OZ routes.

Yeh UA doesn't have anything on the 744s.
Remember LH has only, in the last month, started fitting PTVs to its whole fleet. This is surprising given that a vast number of the LH fleet have only arrived in the last 6 years or so (346s, 330s).

Having had appalling experiences with VS customer services, I thought I would write to them regarding my concerns regarding above and what they would do about it if there was no IFE on the flight.
The response was not unexpected and all that was said, was that if I had cause to complain about the services, to fill out a customer feedback form on my return home...full stop! - line and a half... Not very encouraging
