Operational upgrade/ online check in

Sorry, I'm a newbie to this and may have posted this in the wrong forum.

Does anyone know if checking in online jeopardises your chance of an opeartional upgrade at he airport? I know the OP UG seats are usually allocated before you arrive at the a/p and are usually reserved for FC Gold members. Travelling tomorrow LHR/MIA in PE which is often full with empty seats in Uc.
