Thanks for the link[y][y][y]

The excitement on V-Flyer surrounding this new feature reminds me of the excitement on the site at the time of the introduction of the Upper Class Suite.

I eagerly await the first post providing a personal account of the process

I understand that there is a dedicated security area for Premium/Upper Class pax and after that you are taken directly to the Clubhouse. The work is still going on and the new revamped check-in area for normal pax is opening in December. Hopefully I'll be able to put it up on here if we're at the opening.

Just had a thought. With this being introduced soon, with the carry-on allowance for ex-LHR flights revert to the old 2 items? As you have a private security area, the BAA rules shouldn't really apply any more. It has always been stated that the one item rule has nothing to do with security but to prevent long delays at screening.

We'll see what happens.....

Really, that's interesting, I didn't know that. It definitely would be better for UC customers if they could bring more hand luggage.

Hi all,

I'll be flying out of T3 (companion flight courtesy of a friend, EC only alas!) on Sunday 4th so pretty soon after the facility opens. I'll report back with my thoughts on the process when I have a chance.

I would imagine the baggage rules are set by agencies such as the CAA, so they will have to be followed at all UK airports regardless of the operator.

Can't see it being relaxed - it's a DFT regulation and thus blankets all airlines.

I expect it will be BAA operating in a private area - I doubt VS would want the responsibility of security on its hands anyway.

Carry on limits apply as normal. The 'private' security is carried out by BAA, but exclusively for Upper Class and Gold Card holders.

I laugh every time I go through BAA security - only as it prevents me from weeping.

I seem to recall a recent meeting between the airlines and the Dept for Transport with the outcome that the gov. would review the rule if BAA got its act together or some such thing. So basically never, since BAA seem to have the government in its pocket on this and still don't appear ready to sort this out [:(!].

I'm sure there will be plenty of greeters for a while whilst its bedding in and the media's eyes are on it.

One question, where does the new security channel come out to in departures, is it alongside fast track?

Still, will be able to find out for ourselves on Friday, fingers crossed :)
