Hi there,

I've booked myself and the future wife return flights to Nairobi in June of next year, UC. I had done some digging around beforehand (given that I was parting with a fair chunk of well-earned cash for the privilege), and at the time of booking saw that it was a new route for VS, and that initially it was going to be operated with VSUN, and thus without the UCS.

I did discuss this when booking (over the phone), but I was assured that it would be the UCS, as the use of the older plane was only for a few months until was upgraded. I'm not sure, but it now seems to be the case that VSUN isn't due in for an upgrade until some time in 2008.

You'll appreciate that for the future Mrs. NB and myself, the travelling's a big part of the whole honeymoon experience.

My question is, therefore, whether anyone has a definite answer as to when VSUN is going to get its upgrade? If it transpires that it's not before June of next year, is there anything I can do about it, as I'd be a little bit miffed to have booked a non-UCS flight when I was assured it would be a UCS flight.

I should point out that I registered first time around under my normal name, then realised that perhaps blabbing full details of our honeymoon when it's supposed to be a secret from the future Mrs. NB might not be the best idea!

Thanks for any views / info anyone may have!

I honestly don't know. I think Denzil will be in the best postion to answer this. Last I hear, about 10 days ago, was that SUN was flying without UCS for the foreseeable future.

It's a tricky one. The VS site states that G-VSUN will be refitted Summer '08 which gives them a lot of scope in which to do it. I am not sure how the VS agent would know 100% when the re-fit is due, and unless you have something in writing I imagine that should it be the J2000 seat you wouldn't really have any comeback.

Hi NB,

VS originally stated that G-VSUN would be going for it's re-fit in March 2008 when they announced she would be re-joining the fleet.

At present, 09/04/2008 is the last date which G-VSUN is scheduled to operate to NBO with it's current J2000 UC configuration.

Seatmaps in the system from 10/04/2008 to mid May show an A343-300 with UCS as operating the route. No further seatmaps are loaded from May onwards currently.

VS will have the re-fit booked already for G-VSUN so I see these dates being accurate...:)

In your position I would be happy to expect UCS and to have a great trip...[y]

In any case, if you're going on your honeymoon, you probably won't want to be separated by a wall between your seats, so maybe even if it is J2000, it won't be a total loss:)

45.

Not that I'm implying that long standing couples enjoy being separated by a piece of plastic[:I]

Thank you all for your helpful responses - Rob in particular has helped to allay my concerns.

Will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best...well, actually the best would be that they buy an A380 with the double-cabin in First Class, what with it being our honeymoon, but I guess that's not going to happen in a hurry!

Slightly off topic here, but will this aircraft get an IFE upgrade as well as a refit, considering it has Arcadia?

The current IFE barely works on G-VSUN. VS did confirm earlier in the year that V-Port would be fitted at the same time as the UCS re-fit...:D

Without meaning to kidnap the thread - can anyone check the seating plan for September - specifically the 11th?
Trying to weigh up between BA Club and VS UC
Thanks

Hi Coakers,

No seatmaps are currently loaded after June 2008. The a/c is scheduled to be an A343-300 and it's currently showing as wide open for the date your interested in.

If I was booking myself, I would be 99.9% comfortable that UCS will be available to NBO by next Sept...:D
