Why are 747 UC Suite 6A&6K a no-no?

Folks

I have booked a pair of seats using my FF miles in UC. I'm fine on the way out choosing seats as it's not a suite and I already know the layout on that aircraft, but on the way back it's in the UC Suite on a 747-400 into LHR, and it's a night flight, so sleep would be nice.

I've not travelled in the UC Suite before, and I chose the front two seats (6A & 6K) as I figured (a) quiet as it's away from the bar area and (b) travelling with my other half they looked about the best bet for the odd chat without interfering others.

But on the seat plan on http://www.v-flyer.com/seats.asp these bulkhead seats are rated poor, although a lot of the comments suggest it might be alright if I'd like a kip.

What are the seats in the bubble like if you're travelling with a partner? Any other recommended alternatives for two travelling together?

Cheers, Howard

quiet and dark, no overhead light, only reading light

Avoid this one unless your partner is in 6K (especially if you are tall!). The foot stool touches back to back with that of 6K and I was kicked all night resulting in no sleep

this seat has both positives and negatives. positive is that it gets extra space in front of it next to the wall which allows you to put some stuff there. Negative is that you are very close to the person in 6k and if you are both big people your feet can even be touching.

A cold dark seat where you are enclosed into the corner. The seat touches 6k and is awkward. Avoid if possible but still better than coach

Really cramped and a bit claustrophobic. So much so, I asked to be moved...

Avoid this seat. You are cramped and quite exposed. Much better a few rows back

Not worth £4k

Hi Howard and welcome aboard.

I think row 6 in the nose appears a bit crammed in, the otomans (s) seem to be touching each other and the proximity to the forward bulkhead some people find off-putting. There is no overhead bin storage either.

There has been a lot of discussion on this site about couples travelling together with the UCS, it seems one behind the other is generally accepted as better than across the aisle from each other. G-VFAB Lady P is now in service with a removable screen between the D & G seats in zone B but no feed back on this feature yet.

Howard,
Firstly welcome to V-flyer!:)

I think looking at the reviews (as you have)
the feeling of claustrophobia and of being enclosed are the neagives as well as being very close to 6K

These things are subjective of course as people like different things!
If you dont mind being by the wall at the front and like the seclusion then these seats seem ideal. However if you like to be more in the action and not by the wall pick something else!

I hated the front nose seats in j2000 layout 747-400( just a personal thing seemed to be very isolated) but in the new suite they are just as big as anything else and I like 6a.The bar is redesigned to be right at the back of the cabin away from Pax as far as poss.I was sat right behind it there were plenty of people using it & I had the best nights sleep on a plane ever.

Interestingly in the layouts on 747's before J2000, the two single seats in the fron of the nose were always my favourite, and I'd guess many other's favourite too: very often it was difficult to reserve.

Any comments on the bubble?

BTW, thanks to the other posters for their comments. And thanks for the great site. Why is it that airlines leave it to third parties to provide such comprehensive information?

I notice you can move your seat online now at Virgin's site. On the downside I just tried to make a new online booking and it's full of bugs.

Cheers, Howard

I think 6AC are the best seats, nice and quiet and if your in a couple its great.

I would say sticky with these seats.

Remember on East coast LHR bound flight from BOS, JFK, EWR IAD the upper deck is SNooze zone with only breakfast offered.
