Reward Travel Query?

I found this in the T&Cs on the VA website:

"4.2.2 Reward travel is not available with VAA in Upper Class or Premium Economy on a Friday or Sunday on any routes except Cape Town and Shanghai. On a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Johannesburg are also unavailable. These restrictions apply to inbound and outbound travel on the days stated."

What exactly do they mean in terms of reward travel? Is this referring to reward tickets (i.e If i buy a flight to BGI for 62,000 miles?) or does it also count Companion Tickets? Anyone know?

I was hoping to book a weekend trip to JFK in PE next year, out on the Friday and back on the Monday, using the Companion ticket scheme. Does the above mean that i cant do this?

Anyone with experience, please advise :)

That's interesting - never heard that one before. Certainly, there's never been any problem with my reward upgrade bookings, and there's been plenty that have been Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon [:0]

Cheers

That T&C has always been there. I have never known VSFC enforce it.

Weekend travel is always fairly busy..I guess that's the wisdom of it.

If a flight is busy it will have less reward availability than a quiet flight.

I've flown mostly on fri/sat with reward tickets and never had an issue

We have a reward seat booked for Friday 8th October PE to JFK. No questions were raised when I made the booking. I assume this is another case where the T&Cs have not been fully updated.

Phew!!!

I was worried when i read that at first, hopefully it just means that if the flight is busy then there will be no reward seats on the flight.

I will carry on planning my JFK jaunt with peace of mind ... :)

Whenever I had to book the whole family (5 of us) on reward flights using Select Vouchers I always needed to do so in school holiday times. This was always particularly difficult at Easter. However, I found that after making several failed attempts to get the dates/flights I wanted, it was always best to ring VS on Sunday morning. It seemed that the supervisors and Revenue Management were more willing to be flexible at that time that any other.
