V-Flyer

Hi,

We are travelling in PE LGW-MCO on 23/09/04 (Advance Warning!) on the 11.15am fight with our daughter who is 19 months old. There is two adults and one child(My wife, Myself and my daughter).

As this will be her first flight and can't stay still for more than two minutes, we would like some tips from people who have travelled with toddlers around this age on how to keep them occupied etc.

We would also like some seat reccomendations. On our last flight in PE(when my wife was pregnant), we were in the bulkhead seats, directly behind the pilot, but I have been told these cannot be pre-booked?

Another concern is the air pressure on her ears. I have just bought some "ear planes" from Boots which are supposed to help. Does anyone have any tips on ease the discomfort in a child.

Take some sort of sweets that she can suck on? Does she use a comforter, as that would probably do it as well?

It is quite a while ago, but I remember that we used to keep Christopher occupied with story tapes on a walkman on long journeys.

As tape players are 'electronic' they can't be used during take off and landing, and this is the worst time if a child has problems with ears. We bought earplanes, but they weren't a hit at all, we found the only thing that relieved the pressure was frequent swallowing - plenty of sweets / drinks.

The IFE is good for children, as are the children's meals.

We took John last year in PE (he was 18 months old) we were lucky, as at check in they put us into "Zone B" of UC. He was fine, looking at books, playing with some toys and watching the video screens (see the pictures http://www.v-flyer.com/forum/flyer_view ... hoto_id=40 ) When he got really bored, we went for a walk donw the plane.
As for takeoff and landing, we gave him some juice (water) in a "sucky cup" and that worked well (being oldere this June "suck cup" changed to "sucky sweet"

You can always ask the crew for some Karvol.

This is placed into a cup and then the child can just sniff it this helps unblock the ears.

I would confirm tht the crew are very good at dealing with this. We travel back from MCO on VS16 on Sunday in UC and they found a way to silence the 18 month old that very close to us!

Well I wonder how long before VS follow Gulf Airs lead- anyone seen this months airliner world? More In flight Nannies being introduced across the network. Seeing as VS se its self as being the fore runner in most areas of airline ind (IFB's, PTV's etc) one wonders how long before pax in all classes (as on GF) can take advantage of this service! MY mother wishes she had it when we use to travel long haul to US in the early 80s!

Seriously this is a great idea, and in line with Virgin's brand image. The larger Airbuses should provide some scope for dedicated areas to help with the kids, and having staff on board exclusively focused at helping with children will probably provide a more better service all round.

Sky Nanny looks like an extra FA with responsibility to hand out the kID packs, serve the kids meals first, set them up with the right IFE channles and then check up from time to time. It doesn't suggest that she'll take the children away at all.

It does however look like a useful service, and one that VS may find a good selling point on the B&S routes and where the parents may not be so good at ensuring the kids are well enough prepared and equipped for the long flight.

I do not nor ever have I found your rantings to be totally nonsensical, just the majority, so yes I am aware of the difference.
I am not going to continue this on going spat in this forum.
Let us always agree to disagree, as at no point can I see us ever being on the same page. I do not want to bring into this forum the type of thing seen on other forums.
Unless it has to do with Virgin, or where some information might actually help one another, shall we agree not to communicate?
