This forum is wild about UC UCS PE over VS standard Y class comment !!!!! As a Y customer in 2001 who took his family to NYC in Y for the first time not knowing there was a W K J D Z etc its very interesting. So my first flight with virgin was Y to NYC with my wife and two kids for a bit of fun and shopping. Fab four days and then home! explained to the check-in staff that outbound was not too good with lavies so close and to cut a long story short got op upgraded to PE return. Luck i know. or was this a cunning plan by VS!!!!! On our return we thought that PE was so good we upgraded our holiday next easter to antigua to PE, just great and had a fab time. Being british we succomed(spelling!) to a time share in antigua and returned again later that year in october. Dear old VS upgraded us both ways to UC. Hook Line and sinker, we are now caughted!!!! So UC it is or UCS as our LGW MCO flight say in dec 04. Are VS very cleaver with there upgrades? worked with us, any comments......[^][^][^] Thats 6 crossing of the pond with 2 adults and 2 kids with 3 op upgrades!!!!!!

Hi Stephen,

I would certainly say that they have a cunning plan alright. I was upgraded at the gate from PE to UC on my first flight with Virgin. Got a few upgrades from economy into PE after that.

My company will only pay for Y, but private travel is now PE or above.

However since becoming Gold I have not had any free upgrades - I have had to use up miles to guarantee the seats. Oh yes, I think they are as cunning as a fox who has just been appointed professor of cunning at Oxford University.

Hi Stephen, it is true that once you have tasted the forbidden fruit it is difficult to go back, when we took our first trip in PE my wife declared that she didn't want to travel in coach ever again. Today we fly UC in the suites and I fear for my bank balance for future flights :D

I never got an opup on VS metal until I had an AU card since then quite a few.

Have a good trip Bazz, and your wallet will now forever take a mega bashing:)

I guess I'm another lucky so and so who over the past 3 or 4 years get upgraded on every flight (except one last year which left me feeling really disappointed....they obviously had forgotten who I am:D).

However, like Stephen says, there is no way...... no way I could go back behind that curtain again!!!

I was in Spain last weekend and flew EC, drove me mad. For a 90min flight it felt like the 9 hours it normally takes to cross the pond!!

Mrs Buns & I got hooked in precisely the same fashion and the end result is feeling the same presures as Bazz does:

I got caught in this way too! [:p]

got an upgrade from Y to UC on VS007 LAX-LHR, and once you've been there it is so difficult to go back!

Dont know why me and my friend were chosen, as we were both non flying club members at the time (but now both are), but apparently got selected at check-in and got upgraded at the gate.

My recent trip to ANU with Mrs T was PE going out with an op-up to UC coming home and like Mrs Buns shes's having none of that EC nonsense any more[B)]. I've been pricing next years holiday and am now thinking of ways to fund it like selling my body (as there's lots of it[8)])!!! Can anyone advise how to get those "heavily discounted" Z fares in UC?

John

Is Mrs T now saying "I Don't turn left on aircraft" like Mrs Buns likes to joke with me[?]

Visits to the Virgin Atlantic site well in advance of the intended date of travel - avoid school and public holidays and always travel out mid week. Seems to works for Mrs Buns and myself.

The other way of course is to go the miles earning route and use them for upgrades I suppose;);).

All the best

Plenty of cheapy UC fares in December, for example. I saw £1200 for UC return to Orlando, £1800 for New York - these are the kind of prices to be aiming for. A Saturday night stay might be required to get the best prices.

The correct answer is all airlines overbook so op ups have to happen blah blah blah..:D

The effect of this though is those fortunate few get to expience the next ring of the ladder:D. Many of those then cant go back. Op ups are great and the best way to be one of the few is to fly often!
(However non FF are often opuped and thats the cunning part!;))
