Has the 2nd drinks round post-take off in PE gone

Whilst at the bar on my flight from Miami, I overhead the person doing the PE cabin being briefed on what level of service was offered. He said that 'we don't do a second round of drinks in premium anymore do we', and was told by more experienced crew that that was correct.

I had always thought that one of the perks of PE was 2 drinks rounds after take-off and before dinner.

Is this a thing of the past now????

It certainly used to be, and I noticed this on my last few flights. I'll pay particular attention on Monday.

I certainly had the offer of a second drink before dinner on the way to BOS last week. In fact they were more generous with the drinks offers than I have ever known.

As well as the second drinks round, a wine top up offer during dinner, a brandy / bailey's offer after dinner and a further offer later on in the flight. [y][y]

I had only one drinks round before the meal service last Monday but I did get a top up during the meal and the brandy and Bailey's round. The pre-flight drink was orange juice or Bucks Fizz

I can understand perhaps on shorter flights they have a different schedule. However, the flight to SFO is quite long and there is no excuse for no second round of drinkies. (hic)

Just to be clear, whilst a formal drinks round of proactive service is doubtless preferable (preifferable? [:p]), one can still stop a wandering CC member, ring their call button or go to the galley for a drink, correct?

You can still get a drink outside of the normal service if you use the call button or go the galley to ask for one.

I'd normally go to the galley to ask for a drink.

I wonder if there has been complaints about slow service for the post-departure meal, which has led to the withdrawal of the second drink run?

There's been a few comments on here about apparently slow PE service, especially on the new 744 config, so maybe it's a wider trend?

Ideally, what you want to achieve is a post-departure drink, then provide a drink with the meal service, and in PE, ensure that this is topped up during the service - which maybe is a way the Y/W CSS can help (in the same way the J CSS usually does the wine top-ups in the J cabin).

well to clear it up you get your boarding drinks, then a drinks service after take off, once this is done there is a meal service and you can have a drink (normally wine but anything goes!) with your meal. we then will do a top up service followed by tea and coffee. you should get 2 rounds of this. Afterwards there is a brandy and bailies round but again you can have anything if you ask. this is pretty much it till ice cream/snacks/oj and water and then afternoon tea/breakfast. if you ever want anything all you have to do is ask. ring your call bell (thats why its there) go into the galley or stop a passing crew member. this is the PE service it does change on various routes, if its an early morning flight, say Miami, then you get breakfast after take off then a drinks round at about 10/11am (uk time).

I can confirm that John's order of service also happened to us last month.

However, we were offered two drinks rather than one when they did the first drinks round - I suppose this will always depend on the crew but I'm sure I'd be doing the same thing as it saves time and effort for both passenger and crew.

Neither of us rarely drink wine with meals and my husband has always asked for another beer at this time even in economy and it's never been a problem for any crew.

And this neatly sums up the many comments about lack of CONSISTENCY on VAA flights[:(!]! Why oh why are some VAA crew clearly of one opinion and others of a different opinion about what should be happening on any given flight; this is NOT rocket science - or maybe for some people it is [?]? How can confusion arise amongst the cc over something so simple???

I thought this was explained earlier that there is a published order of service but that some crew deviate from this to provide an extra drinks run?

There were 2 drinks runs in PE DXB-LHR on the 9th? Though the crew were a cut above the average...[y]
