Seems it's official now, sometime in the New Year.

About time too [^]

Having said that, hopefully we won't see a return to the chaos of 2 items meaning 22 to some...

Wonder how it'll work in reality, surely it has to be an all or nothing approach across all UK? It sounds like the relaxation of the rule is to be introduced progressively....so if I'm flying to, say, Newcastle I may be allowed 2 bags (if LHR has been granted the relaxation) but flying back from NCL I may be allowed only one bag (if NCL hasn't yet got the green light) Can just imagine the confusion that would prevail [:?]

It's prevailing already for the likes of me. I can bring 2 bags as hand baggage over from Ireland (which to all intents and purposes could be classed as a domestic flight) but only one going back - and if I've been shopping then that's where the difficulty lies!

The latest appears to be that airports can apply to allow more than one item of carry-on for flights leaving on or after Jan 7th 2008.

Who want't to be in the sweepstake that HLR isn't amongst the first?

I think my Jan flight will be just before that date, and I'm travelling a route where extra CarryOn would be appreciated as United pretty much always delay my bag by a day or so.

According to the Sunday Times today, the relaxation will initially only apply to first and business class passengers only due to insufficient equipment and manpower on BAA's part.

Hmm. That'd be the same manpower that was there before the one bag rule was introduced, and further 'beefed up' when it was, would it...? [ii]

Since when has Ft. Hood AAF ever been in the forefront of anything? Bloody pikers...

According to Sky News this morning a handful of UK Airports inc Edinburgh, Gatwick, and Liverpool will not be in a position to implement this on January 7th [n]

As yet they don't have permission from the Department of Transport [:(!]

Won't Gatwick and Edinburgh be on strike on the 7th in any case?

On strike and with extra baggage being alowed in. Wow - January 7th sounds like it is going to be a black day indeed!

Silly me forgot about the strike.

However Sky gave the impression that not only wouldn't it be the 7th or in fact it wouldn't be anytime in the near future!

Fantastic news - from 7th Jan it's back to normal for Heathrow at least.

Hopefully Gatwick will sort themselves out soon.

Could be confusing though say for orangejet pax who's flights get diverted [}:)]

Mods, just a thought, can this thread be split into a new one as it is quite a major change?
