Fly drive

I was looking online the other day at fly drive prices and am confused. The bumpf says that it's a flight and car (which has always been my understanding). but when you input dates and so on, or add in a flight upgrade, all it shows in the breakdown is flight, upgrade and various taxes - no car is mentioned at all! Have I got this wrong and a fly drive doesn't include a car anymore????

And what about Vroom lounge - anyone braved this???

Oops, sorry folks, just seen the thread on Vroom, even though I can't see if anyone's actually used it....

The new lounge doesn't open until next year so no reviews as yet.

As for the VH flydrive, you need to input names etc. and whether you wish to pay up front for insurance and any extra days car hire and it will then give you a full breakdown of costs.

Thanks Jilly - how odd though. I'd have thought there might have been some mention before doing that.

Hi catsilversword,
I would check out the Hire Car insurance costs from Virgin Holidays if you haven't already. I booked a fly drive earlier this year at a reasonable price( about £40-£50 more than just flight only) but the deal covered just the cost of hiring a basic spec and sized car. Insurance was extra at over £200 ![V] and if you wanted to upgrade the size of the car that was a considerable amount too. In the end I went to a company called Care Hire 300 who were great and got a great car 4 grades up from the one offered in the Virgin Holidays deal which included all the insurances you need for the same price as the Insurance that you had to purchase with the VS deal[|:)]
Not wanting to slag off Virgin Holidays at all as the whole experience was great but its just next time I will book a flight only and arrange car hire separately.
Hope this helps[y]

Hi noc,

I was just curious to price it and see how it compared. It's several years since I've done anything other than book everything separately (use car hire 300 for my last trip!) - I'm not too precious to grab a good deal though, which is why I was looking. Have to admit, the price didn't leap at me anyway, since I realised it wouldn't be for the type of car I wanted to have!
