V-Flyer

Hello all,

A quick question - I have to travel to London Euston from Glasgow on Sunday by train as not allowed to fly due to ankle injury.

Virgin are doing a great fare in First for 59 quid but i am not sure if its on the Pendolino or the Voyager as the service standards i believe are different.

I have tried looking on their web site but cant seem to find anything or even a contact number for them.


Any of you know the answer?
Has anyone ever travelled in first with them?

All the trains on the Euston route are typically Pendolino bar those on the North Wales coast.

The Pendolino in first is a lovely train - I love the tilting around the curves which prevents your bum squirming across the seat.

You will get complementary refreshments though you may have to get them yourself from the Shop.

Voyager and Pendo in First are pretty OK but service levels on a Mon-Fri on the Pendo are greater. ALL Euston - Glasgow services are 390 'Pendolino' with the Birmingham - Edinburgh/Glasgow services being mainly Voyager.

One thing to note is that Virgin Trains are only on the west coast routes now as Cross Country has been given to Arriva.

Also at weekends you can upgrade to First Class on Virgin Trains for just £10, so if it's cheaper to buy a fare in Standard Class, do that then simply see the Train Manager on board to upgrade to First Class.

Also, two single tickets in first are quite often cheaper than a return. The best bet would be a second class single for the Sunday - upgraded on the train as suggested by VS075. Then if you are heading back M-F, buy a second single this ime in First. Buy these as far as possible in advance to get the best deal. http://www.thetrainline.com will give you prices/times etc.

One last point - it will take a LONG time on a Sunday due to engineering work!
