VH always used to have good accom only prices, but it seems that for city breaks, it's cheaper to book the flight and hotel separately and not use VH at all now. [:?] Are they competitive for other holidays?

Sometimes you can find Virgin Holidays will beat all comers, and sometimes they're way out of the ballpark. I used them for booking the Wynn back in November, as they had the best prices of anyone (plus a healthy bonus of Flying Club miles - 2 per pound spent, and that's in addition to the miles for using my VS Amex Card, particularly during the promo bonus offer).

So it's worth keeping an eye on their prices in comparison to others. I find them cheaper when availability is tight.

I agree. I have used VH for our city breaks Accom for the last 2 years but looking for next year they are way overpriced on everything apart from The Wynn for when we go to Vegas (I can't compare direct yet as Wynn won't allow me to book direct for Oct yet but it seems a good price.). For NYC next December they are over £950 more than the hotel direct for a 3 night stay[V].

I have also noticed that they are not offering the best choice of hotels anymore either. For SFO the choice is really poor.

Yeah, I can't say I've seen any youth hostels advertised in VH brochures recently. [:p]

No seriously, I think you need to remember the target demographics for VH's customer base. There are some 'luxury' hotels in the mix but on the whole they cater down a level, around the 3-4 star range.
