BAA Strikes - Flight Diversions into MAN

With the possibility of BAA staff going on strike we've been told of a posibility of several VS flights could be operating into MAN.

They are:
VS 002 , 004 , 010 ,064 and 373

Does anyone know that a/c types, times and routes that these flights are?

Should be interesting if it goes ahead.

When you say 'we've been told', are you a member of staff at MAN?
Do you know what contingencies have been laid on for getting pax to and from LHR / LGW?

One might assume that it could be a Virgin Train from Manchester to London Euston [8D]

Wouldn't be suprised if BHX also gets some flights. They had a fair chunk of LHR diversions due to the fog. CWL is also another possibility.

Would imagine pax will be on buses- although Virgin Trains would be a good idea [:w]

CWL has been used as a divert when Gatwick is fog bound. BHX has issues with runway length for heavy 747's It's nearly 1, 300 metres shorter than Heathrow.

I can see this turning into a bun fight for non BAA regional airports & no doubt those that already use them will be better looked after!!!!!

I suppose it's easier for BA to plan, having ground ops at many places, but for VS MAN would be the logical choice since that's really the only other place it has people on the ground apart from the BAA airports of LGW and LHR.

That said, I wouldn't look forward to the schlep to Manchester myself, whether coach and / or train on top of the transatlantic or other journey - I'd prefer to move my travel instead!

Didn't stop Air India landing 744 from Delhi there the other day when LHR was fog bound.

[:0] There is a reason its been renamed London Airways. BA will not find it easy at all IMHO, they have no presence in the regions and little by way of ground handling, remember they only operate c.10 routes from the regions on the mainline network. That is shocking for a national carrier.

Anyway there is a thread on this over on a.net that is saying the following carriers will be using the following airports:

MAN: VS, EY, EK, CX, SQ
CWL: SA, Zoom,
LTN: Air Malta
BHX: PK, AI

Worries are that handling agents in the regions arent going to be able to cope with the extra volume of aircraft. Other airports such as Exeter, Manston are all gearing up as well.

I wonder will it mean that there will be delays on these flights on their outbound journeys? I was blithely thinking I was managing to avoid the strike since I will be back in the UK on Jan 8th until I realised that the strike of the 7th may well mean that there is no aircraft in JFK on that date to bring me home [:0] If flights leave MAN we should be OK but there may well be delays in ensuring pax get there.

My contacts tell me also there is an option to use prestwick as the ground handling agents there are able to support VS as well

No passengers to go by train between Manchester and London as Rugby station is under massive engineering works blocking the route - and has overran into tomorrow. Oops!

And the BBC too, great news - be even better to see the VS strike called off and all round acceptance of the last offer.

It's only the first due for the 7th that has been called off at the moment. The 24-hour on the 14th and the 48-hour on the 17th are still on.

Given that some post indicates the whole thing is off, a little clarity wouldn't go amiss.
