Just in case anyone gets caught out between now and the 7th Jan.

Whilst VS indicate they allow 2 pieces, BAA appear to be still saying as from the 7th Jan, this is also the date published by British Airways.

Cheers

Good for BA to allow it for all their customers. So why is VS just allowing it for upper class?

They always used to. VS has ALWAYS had a 1 bag for Y/W and 2 for J rule. They're just going back to how it used to be.

It's hardly being shouted from the rootops by VS. No announcement on the front page and only found out by looking on the ex-UK hand baggage page.

Still, good news and after 18 months, well overdue.

Each airport has to prove to the DoT that they can cope with the changes (increase in volume of hand luggage to be checked). Apparently Gatwick is suffering from a staff shortage which is why they have not yet gained approval.

Thanks,
Sarah

The others are not yet on the approved list as they haven't proved they will be able to handle the extra workload caused by the increase of hand luggage going through security. Or something like that anyway.

The daft thing on the 1 bag for Economy/PE is that on the flight back you can take 2 as I often do from HK when travelling PE.

According to the BBC news site today:

'Virgin Atlantic will allow one piece of cabin luggage per passengers in Economy and Premium Economy Class (plus laptop, handbag or similar); and two pieces of luggage per passenger travelling first class.'

In the previous restrictions by BAA even a hand bag counted as 1 piece of luggage.

BAA have now announced that as of today, the one-bag restriction at Gatwick has been lifted. VS are still only showing one item at the moment.
