Instead of his usual restaurant review there's fulsome praise for VS from Michael Winner in the Sunday Times today. And I mean fulsome. Choice phrases include 'superb lounge', 'near perfect' food in the club house, the upper class layout 'knocks BA first class into ... cocked hat', decribed the FA as a waitress, on board food 'well above BA standards'!!!

I find him hugely entertaining if maybe barking mad, this review fits both categories [:o)].

Oh for goodness sake, don't ever use his name in a thread title. Grr.

This is the same person that had commented in the papers on 24th Dec about his dilemma:

Winner says that this year he is 'dithering over whether to pay £150,000 for a private plane to and from Barbados for the holiday or slum it with other Virgin passengers in Upper Class return at £3,996'.

Also looks like the other Virgin passengers didn't get the final say in his decision making. [n]

Terrible, absolutly terrible. Having to put up with such riff-raff. Enough to put you off VS for life.

After all, who want to sit next to Michael Winner for 11 hours.

At least Lady Bamford was onboard to put him in his place.... though I am surprised that she was not flying on a private jet.

I wonder if the CC did their usual amount of fawning over him as they do over other so-called celebs?

He's written a very long running column on restaurants in The Sunday Times - decades long and is very well known here.

I think he's comparing a LGW 747 with a BA 747 - interestingly they do actually have the same number of seats in the forward cabin, I think.

And Sandy Lane, I think it's superb and all the better for being so yesterday - brilliant service and full of people with manners!

Big, fat, obnoxious bloke with a penchant for sexism, fatty food and halitosis. It is said that he is so arrogant that he once publicly stated his wish that he had a £ for each person who hated him - a wish that subsequently came true when he became exceedingly wealthy. In later life fell on harder times and was forced to raise himself to making adverts for cut price insurers with the catch phrase 'calm down dear...'

Apart from that he's OK though.

Has a penchant for white y-fronts, or so the story goes [:$]

Has an un-nerving knack of being seen with a string of very glamorous women on his arm. [:0]

Set up the Police Memorial Trust [y]

Who's Spitting Image puppet is actually better looking than the real thing.[?]

His restaurant reviews used to keep me amused on a Sunday, but I thought he'd given them up? I used to particularly like the subtle way he mentioned which of his Rollers he was driving that week [:)]

Still he once compared the Lone Star in Barbados to the Ivy, which is a bit OTT, but anybody who rates my favourite restaurant that highly can't be all bad...

Now that wouldn't surprise me. I seem to recall Mr Clarkson writing a similar piece about VS when his was taken away. I can't see BA being too receptive after his comments in the piece; if I were Willie's PA I'd be fuming.

It seems that it is celebrity plug day for VS.

In Piers Morgan's diary / column in the Mail, he recounts how he bumped into Chris Moyles in the Virgin lounge at Gatwick when he was on his way to Antigua, just after Christmas.

It wouldn't suprise me if this was VS going on a PR blitz given the recent negative PR stirred up with the strike etc. I would be willing to bet that Winner didnt pay for his UC tickets or is expecting something in return...

Piers often relays the tale of how he was flying UC, talking to a beautiful woman, woman goes to sleep, he goes to in flight bar, to be told he is chatting with Shania Twain.

This was on the LGW-LAS route. Seems piers likes the LGW clubhouse [:)]
