MpM / K fare, PE upgrade to UC possible?

I'm an expat working in London.

Bought my wife a MpM PE ticket to come visit. Have about 90k FC miles. Is it possible to buy her out of K/MpM into the lowest Economy/PE fare that allows mileage upgrades to get her into UC? She's travelling VS2 on 6 Feb (a Wed), return VS1 on 10 Feb.

Any issues using my miles for her ticket? She has an Au account, but her miles go to my Ag. Ticket was booked using my FC Ag account.

edit: I know I could have used miles to book an UC reward outright, my company is paying her MpM fare.

The MpM fare can be moved up to an S/W for difference in fare +£50 change fee. There will need to be avail in G class for the Upper upgrade.

Thanks; can I attempt this now with FC Gold, or should I wait until a few hours prior to checkin?

I would ring the premier team now and check on availability and if possible complete the transaction. If not, then you should try on the day but that may mean your wife doing this at the airport itself.

Thanks, just rang FC. Was ~ $US650 to go from K to S on both segments. VS2 had G availability, hoewever VS1 did not. I told her I wanted to use more miles and less cash as I have a limit for fare reimbursement, about $1000.

I suggested she split the booking and upgrade the VS2 leg to S and leave the VS1 segment in K. Then use miles from S->G. No go apparently - she couldn't upgrade one leg of the ticket.

Instead she rebooked the VS2 segment from K to B (economy upgradeable) and the VS1 segment from K to S (PE upgradeable). This was allowed, so I used 30k miles to go from B to G (UC) on VS2.

I'll check wife in early and try and have a seat released from ops on the day, as the S segment is upgradeable and I have the miles. Cost was $375, including an $80 change fee and 30k miles. Small price to pay to go to UC. And I now earn miles on both segments, whereas I did not before in K. Total fare was about $1100; UC out, PE upgradeable return on the way back. About $100 out of my pocket. Fingers crossed that ops lets an UC seat go - they usually do for a gold card holder.

She also gave me back the 10k miles I used for the original MpM fare and somewhat cheekily told me to call FC in the first instance next time. Silly me.
