More VS Cutbacks?

I've just gone on the VS to register some friends for FC through Miles More Friends and it says that the bonus earned from an economy trip is 2,000 miles. The thing is I registered my Brother in Law a while ago and I'm sure the bonus then was 3,000 for economy (which I might add VS never credited to my account despite my protestations).
Is this another example of VS cost cutting or have I got it wrong?

Mmm, not sure I'd really call it a cutback. Yes it has been revised, but it's still not a bad offer. Shame certain travel agents have been taking advantage of it and spoiling it for the general customers.

Does it depend on the Economy fare class? I think for Econ flights it has to be a full-fare Y to get the bonus.

They have now started giving the person who joins a bonus as well so overall both people gain from it. I also think that now you get the bonus on 'n' class tickets which you didn't before.

Very much so.
Click on 'fare codes' over there on the left for an explanation of what booking class earns what.

MMF now applies to pretty much all VS fares:
You earn the following for refering (based on a round trip):
Economy (Y,B,L,M,V,Q,X,N) 2,000 miles
Premium Economy (W,S,K,H) 5,000 miles
Upper Class (J,D,Z) 10,000 miles
and each person you refer now also earns 3000 bonus miles on their first VS flight regardless of class flown in (on top of standard Flying Club earnings)

Thanks for that James, what about a round trip in different fare codes? Some friends will be doing a K and Z - does that average out over the two?

You should get 2500 for the K leg and then 5000 for the Z leg. The MMF bonus shows on your FC account as a separate transaction for each leg.

For one way flights just half the figures. So for a K+Z you should earn 2500 + 5000 = 7500 miles.
Note - now I've read the T&C's correctly, the person flying earns upto 3000 bonus miles:
3.2.6 For all person referred who subsequently join Flying Club and travel, they will earn bonus miles on the basis of the cabin in which they complete their first round trip with Virgin Atlantic: the following miles will be awarded: Economy, 1,000 miles, Premium Economy 2,000 miles and Upper Class 3,000 miles....
So the 3000 miles bonus miles I originally quoted is only when they fly in Upper Class both ways. It's 2000 for PE return and 1000 for economy return.
You can refer as many people as you like to Flying Club, but you only earn miles on the first 10 people you refer.

Just a silly question..does the 10 person limit include people that choose not to fly VS in the end, I know I invited my in-laws, but in the end BA ended up being a lot less expensive in Club, have I now used two of my ten ???

No it doesn't. You can invite as many people to join through the MMF email as you like but its only the ones who fly that count towards your 10. From the MMF t&c's:
3.2.8
You may refer as many new members as you like through Miles More Friends, but you will only earn bonus Flying Club miles on the first ten who enrol and then take a qualifying flight.
