I have an award flight on Friday in UC that I am unable to change yet I know that there are a whole bunch of UC seats still available on the next one, a few hours later. I just can't change onto the later flight.

Looks like I may miss the one I am booked on as I have a meeting that will finish a little later then planned. What are the chances of just being put on the next flight out if I miss the one I am booked on? Does anyone have experience of this?

If you miss your flight, you miss your flight - VS are under no obligation whatsoever to re-accommodate you on a later departure I'm afraid.

The only circumstances they will look to assist is where you can PROVE you took 'reasonable measures to arrive on-time' but lucked out somehow (public transport strike, freak weather, etc) Note: broken down cars DO NOT COUNT for this clause in the T's and C's; this opens itself up to the 'should have taken reasonable measures' argument.... In your case of a 'late meeting', no chance!

Your post suggests that you've spoken to VS and they will not allow a change because no reward inventory is available on the later flight. That said, it may be worth asking whether they might be able to speak to revenue management and ask for one to be released - you might get lucky, just don't bank on it being a positive answer.

Of course, the other option would be to cancel the reward (depending on FC status, you could lose a % of miles) and re-book a revenue ticket on the later one?

Personally, I'd go for leaving the meeting early. Meetings can be rescheduled - plane journeys tend not to be so flexible..

If you pay for it I will gladly take a PJ. Don't think my miles covers that however [:p]
