So last November I qualified to Gold. Previously I'd never used the LHR clubhouse as my flights were always in PE or BMI J.

Today I write this from the LHR clubhouse whilst sipping a nice chardonay and watching the rugby in the background!

Yes I've 'heard' how great the CH is and how 'wonderful' the dedicated security channel is, but until you experience them, you just don't realise[:D]

I've flown J with BA before and blagged First lounge access in T1, all very nice, but the experience I'm having today is truly magical[^]. It's a very good reason to ensure I earn 30 TP's this year and keep my gold. To any silver's out there who wonder if it's worth it, there is no other way to travel, that said I'm in Y tonight[n]

Right have to rush off I have an appointment for a facial........

Words that will bring a smile to the face of those at Virgin responsible for this great haven[;)]

The Clubhouse is great, isn't it? I always take myself off and spend some time on the upstairs patio, just to watch the planes taking off and a bit of fresh air (VERY fresh on occasions)[8D]

The first time is always memorable but the magic works for me each and every time I am there. [y]

Fresh air? Last time I was up there the smell of jet fuel was overpowering. Still, it is nice to watch the operations below although it does fell a little prison-like.

Actually Christine, it was the last time I was there too, but I asked one of the staff and they let me sneak up.

As for FRESH air, I suppose you are right Darren although perhaps the wind was blowing in a more favourable direction for me. Or am I a kerosene addict and didn't know it?[:0]

This quite often happens if a so called 'zelebrity' is in residence upstairs (or the CH are anxiously awaiting their arrival)[V][n].Apparently it keeps us mortal fare paying riff-raff from pestering the zelebs for autographs (perleeeease).Cheeses me (and no doubt others) off no end.

Indeed. True celebrities don't care and will just sit in the mix.

I'm sure I already posted this somewhere, but when I was in the CH in December I asked the concierge why the roof garden was closed. I was told it was because people continued to violate the no smoking prohibition which is in effect because of possibility of kerosene spills down below.

I was told that its fate was sealed by a sneaky smoker setting fire to something up there and causing a full evacuation of the clubhouse. Apparently it will be enclosed as a conservatory.
