Hi All! This is my first post here. I've read your message boards several times and enjoy all the insider info.

My question is (and I have searched around to find the answer, to no avail):

I'm flying to London for the first time in two months (!!![:D]) and have booked in Premium Economy. The only seat I could get was the LAST row (in front of the bathrooms) on the 747 (seat 37D). I'm flying out on the 18:10 flight from LAX.

Is this seat terrible?? I REALLY wanted a window but that didn't work out. Is it worth going to LAX in person the evening before to check in and (hopefully) get a better seat? Or will online check-in work OK? If any of you have sat in this row/seat: let me know your thoughts.

Many thanks and I LOVE this site!!

Get to LAX nice and early. The exit row and bulkhead seats are usually blocked until check-in - bulkheads for families with babies, exit rows are for able bodied only. You may be able to snag one of those.

The lav config on the 747 isn't that bad, especially compared to the Airbus. In the area you are concerned about, all the lav doors open onto the cross-over aisle, not the main aisle, so there's just a wall behind you, as far as you're concerned.

On the 747, no-one's seat opens directly onto a lavatory door.

If only they built Airbuses this way, as there's some truly ropey seats on those

Welcome to V-Flyer! I hope you'll post a Trip Report when you have a chance. Some of them make great reading, and I'm always thankful when people take time to post!

As for your seat inquiry, to the left of this thread you'll see, in the menu, 'seat ratings.' The seat rating for 37D is:

Rating: Poor
This area becomes crowded and noisy as people wait for the bathrooms and try to get around others.

My advise is to drink heavily. And be sure to post your own seat rating, too!

Looking forward to seeing you back again soon...

Thank you both for your advice ... It is very helpful!

Well I guess this seat isn't so great (as I suspected). I think I'll see if I can snag an exit row by checking in early the evening before.

If I get stuck in this seat regardless, well at least I can 'drink heavily' as you suggested. [:)]

Thanks again and I'll post a trip report when I get back. Should be interesting as it's my first international flight!

First try online check in the minute it's available, sometimes different seat choices emerge, then if you're not happy get to physical check in as soon as its open to request the front row of PE seats.

Also if people check in before you and get the bulkheads then their previously assigned seats will become available.

Indeed. But be aware you'll have to pay for them. £75/$110 each. Just so you don't get a surprise.

Really? I was always under the impression it was in both classes, and have seen them charging at PE check-in. If so, I'll humbly withdraw... [:)]

Yep, you def don't pay for Exit Rows/Bulkheads in PE - have sat in them a few times and never been charged.

Don't forget that FC Ag's will check in for Y there

in my experience of the LHR 747 config when passengers are waiting for the loo's they tend to wait on the other side of the curtain in Y, and if they don't i always politely ask them too. the only thing you may find is while the service is going on some passengers may get stuck standing next to you till the crew let them through with their trollies. hope you have a good one.
