Hehe, I like Gordon Brown's comment: decisions must be made 'in the chamber of this House and not on the roof of this House'. I can understand the anger people feel because of having their houses torn down, but I don't think adding a third runway will necessarily lead to an increase in pollution or anything. Given that the alternative, as we have now, is having tons of aircraft sitting idly on the taxiways it's probably going to help, not hurt, the situation.

SRB was quoted on LBC this morning with the exact same argument, though he referred to the increased carbon emissions of all the planes circling waiting to land.

Read the summary report from the DTI (following one of the links on BBC website)in lunch break. It mentions moving the runways in to mixed mode which also will reduce the time waiting in a stack with little increase to carbon emissions. Although, it apparently means breaking agreements with local residents (the Cranford agreement) over using the northern runway for easterly take-offs.

I would like to see the sacked Qatar airways pilot, fly a low swoop over the houses of parliament.

I am sure the rooftop protestors would enjoy that :D

Red Arrows doing an alternate pass on each side of the tower too. I wonder if they can see the new control tower from up there???
