Can I bring cheesecake back?

PostPosted: 13 Mar 2008, 11:37

Hi Everyone,
I'll be returning from LAX on Good Friday and quite fancy bringing back a whole cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory.

It will be frozen, packed in styrofoam and have dry ice to keep it cold. I'll be travelling in UC so there should be no problem getting it back BUT will I be able to take it through UK customs?

My initial thought is 'No' as milk-based products seem to be prohibited. However, if one of you wise readers knows better please let me know.

Be prepared for a Disneyesque queue. I don't think there is a single Cheesecake factory in the US that doesn't have a massive hoard of people outside at peak meal times..... and that has to tell you something. [;)]

Scarlet if you just want to sample the Cheesecake then you can go to Downtown Disney and there is a cafe in Disney Quest that sells it too. Your other option is in Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM), there is a small outlet there too.

If we want to indulge in the full menu we usually head up to Winter Park, usually much quiet there than in the Mall of Millenia.

Whatever you decide to go, don't forget at any of them you can order 'to go' - you can even ring ahead and pick up curbside, no-one sees you collecting your guilty pleasure then

I have been known to do this on more than one occasion, take it back to the villa, sit by the pool and indulge in a slice or two without anyone watching me 'pig out' [:w][:I]

Enjoy
Jilly

Depends on how many folks you have in your party ... there's always a bar area which includes a few, possibly high, tables, as is often the case in many US establishments, and it is first-come-first-served. Play your cards right with two or three of you, and you will get to sit down pretty quickly. Same menu, same everything. I'm not a huge fan of the food other than the Godiva Cheesecake, and the bathtub-sized cocktail glasses, but we do occasionally step into the one at top of Macy's in SF, it is quite picturesque on a nice day, it is an ungodly scrum over the weekend and in shopping times, but I've never really waited more than 15 minutes to get a seat at the bar area. Worth checking out.

I think I'm going to risk it and try and bring one back. What's the worst that can happen? I'm sure I'll either make it through (good for me, yum) or have it confiscated.

My only worry now is which one to go for...

Apart from being prosecuted?

If in doubt, leave it out

Rather selfish if you ask me.

What a great idea Jilly. I love the Cheesecake Factory but am not a fan of their queues, might have to follow your tip when we are in MCO next month.

While I admire your determination to bring one back, you may also need to check with VS to see it they are happy with Dry Ice onboard.

Costco in the UK do two Cheesecakes - one of which is a Cheesecake Factory (Vanilla). They only have one of the two stocked at a time.

USA Costco stock it all the time, as well as a selection pack (much better than boring vanilla :-)

Just one thing - they *do* say 'Cakes are excluded from this regulation'.

So, is a cheesecake a CAKE, or CHEESE? [:?]
