Hi all

I am new to the forum although I have been reading the posts for some time now. This is my first.
I just snapped up a great Bargain in UC to JFK from LHR.

Using VS 45/46 on the 744.

I have picked seat: 16A on lower deck for day flight. I was told its better on the left as apparently the beauty area only 'effects' people on the back right? Is this true? Or will there be 'noise' and movement around 16A?

As for the nigh flight, I wanted to sleep as much as I could. I have been pre assigned 9A last row on left of upper deck. However is this noisey due to the galley right behind?

Do they still offer the sleeper service? If so, which part of the aircraft.

Many thanks! [:D]

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer

Yes, the beauty therapist area is at the left of the aircraft but in all honesty I have to say I travelled in 16K and it really didn't impact on me at all. I was scarcely aware of the people coming in and out for their treatments.

The sleep zone is on the upper deck and you might want to move further forward if at all possible as there could be some noise from the galley

Welcome indeed. This is a favorite topic. Night time flights, try to go upstairs if you can, and indeed look for seats middle-to-forward. Row 1 will have you right next to the lavatories, OK on a quiet flight, can get a bit busy otherwise. Row 11 is right next to the galley; I like 4-7. 15/16 are good seats downstairs on the LHR 747, especially port/A side. As you will see from many posts on the topic, seats are a bit wider and shorter downstairs, and 15/16 have a lot of space in front of them, and their own overhead bins (not so for 12/14).

Great thanks for the advice so far.

9A is the only seat left on the upper deck! Crazy, and it's 5 months out until I fly!!

So what is my next bext option? To keep it, or find a 'quieter' seat downstairs thats not in the sleep zone?

Remember that only 60% of seats are available for pre-selection and the remainder become available at check-in. You could do on-line check-in 24 hours before the flight and change your seat selection then or else get to the airport early on the day itself.

Honey Lamb is absolutely right - expect two to three rows to appear as selectable on the stroke of 24hrs before your flight, in OnLineCheckIn. They will go fast, folk really do like upstairs seating. Seats also have been known to come and go as you get closer to the time, though OLCI is your best bet.

Also, row 6 in the LHR config of the 747 is blocked as an 'exit row' and can only be assigned at the airport. If you get there among the first to check in (we may be talking the first TWO) you can ask for it to be released to you. Then have your dinner in the clubhouse - which incidentally was featured in the architectural piece in Time Mag's recent Luxury addendum to the magazine, and is well worth the visit.
