I am currently trying to decide which seats to preselect for the Fairphils to select when we make our first ever UC booking.
When studying which seats may be the best for a couple traveling together - and - using Flytalk to view seat availability - the seat map does not always match that on the VS seat map - ie some seats are missing.
Also I know that with BA some seats are definately witheld in Club class.
So my question - do VS also blank out some seats so they are not available for preselection
Many thanks

Fairphil,
Welcome to V-Flyer. We're delighted to have you with us. We appreciate your paid membership subscription and hope you enjoy all the time you spend on the site.
As to 'missing' seats Virgin does routinely keep certain seats blocked until nearer departure. This can occur in all classes of service and is done to assist reservations agents in placing families with infants as well as passengers requiring easier access and egress (e.g., those with disabilities).
If you don't see the seat you want just ring up VS reservations and inquire. Chances are you will be able to pick your desired seat.
By the way, paid members on V-Flyer receive discounts on usage of Expertflyer.com. The seat availability as well as blocked seats are usually clearly marked. Take a look at the named forum which is visible to paid members.
Again, welcome aboard!

It has been mentioned how only about 60% of seats are usually available for preselection. Most become available when check-in opens (meaning, on line check in). IN UC, occasionally I have seen some seats show up a day or two before the flight on the preselection screen (hard to tell if because some other passenger has released it, or for other reason). A handful (six on the 747s, if I remember correctly) can only be assigned at the airport.
