We are about to take our third trip in UC (and third with Virgin) and I just wonder if someone could please tell me if there are DVD players available for passengers to use and what sort of films there are to watch on them. Also, do you only get purple boarding cards at Heathrow? I was so disappointed they were just ordinary ones when we flew for the first time!

Many thanks.

There are DVD players onboard, but they aren't just handed out to UC pax. You will of course have the IFE but they usually keep the DVD players for people who have faulty screens etc, although if you request one and there are some available you should probably get one.

We got purple boarding cards in MCO, so its not just at LHR and I would imagine if foreign airports are dishing them out, MAN would be too.

I've always been given a purple boarding card at both MAN & MCO - so can only assume that they had run out on your last UC trip (still a poor show given that boarding cards are hardly an unusual item for a check-in operation).

As Neil has said, you only normally get a personal DVD unit if your IFE screen is in some way inoperable. That said, you are in UC so there is no harm in asking the crew if you can use one of the personal DVD players. I generally have my laptop with me & run it off the in-seat power supply and watch DVD's on that.

Enjoy your trip to Orlando.

Checking in at Downtown Disney you usually end up with the red ones, last time we did it we had to drop the car seat off for my son and when we handed the boarding card to the agent in MCO they asked for all of the boarding cards and switched them to the purple ones. [y]
