Anyone had any invites to any Flying Club events recently?
I may have just been unlucky or have they been cut back as well?
Thread moved to Flying Club forum......Nick

And there's the Flying Club Swingers golf competition which seems to be the main focus of events - which is fine if you are a golfer.

I wouldn't bank on seeing many more events in the future given the current financial climate.
Another luxury of the past to be added to the list unfortunately..[:(]

To be fair though, 99.99% of VS pax never went or even know they exist.

I think 99.99% is a bit high, Darren. [8D][:D]
The vast bulk of them are (were) Gold Card events. I don't think SRB has had a do for staff at his house for a while - there were always a few golds invited to them, and a prize draw on the website for other FC members.
There are still quite a few competitions on the website for golds, mainly, it seems, to win tickets to the O2 arena - as several of us have done. [;)][}:)]
If there is a budget for these sort of things, I would think that it is one of the first things that was been reduced. As HL says, there is the golf thing - which is very good, if you are into golf. [n]

We used to have a staff do, the (in)famous Vodafone Ball. Cost millions to put on but only about 40% of staff could go (working etc.). It was done away with and replaced with a bonus scheme that all staff benefited from. Nice little payout too. OK, not enough to retire on but fairer.

Business class lounges and cabins are obsessed with Golf and Golfing magazines. Why?!

And of course it is heavily sponsored, especially as the freebies are concerned

Ahh yes, I'd heard about the Vodafone parties. We used to have them too, but we cut them back and returned the money to the teams for increased morale budget (apparantly). The tax on such expenditure is immense though.

Absolutely. Did you think I could find a copy of 'Hello' or other such gossip rags in the JFK CH last Saturday? No, but plenty of Golfing magazines [xx(]
