Has anyone had the experience of their connecting flight (VS to VS) not arriving in time to get their connection?

In this case do you bags magically appear on the carousel?

By law, no bag should be sent on a commercial aircraft un-accompanied unless it's something like a rush bag/mail and has been subject to extra security checks and paperwork. The departure gate will be aware of passengers who won't make the flight due to a late arrival and so the bags will be removed from the aircraft and returned to you or stored for a later flight.

Didn't this happen (the other way around) to HL once? I remember from her TR where she made the connecting flight but her luggage didn't - it arrived the next day.

Yeah that's possible, it happened to me flying from RAR to LAX via AKL, we got our bags 24 hours later. They're sent on as rush bags.

I've also had this happen on a split flight to Orlando with US Air despite rechecking the bag after clearing Immigration and Customs!

Yep! The inbound VS flight was delayed and at the transfer desk I found I had been booked on a later flight. The lady at the desk agreed to check me in for my original flight in case I made it. I did but the case didn't! It came on the later flight.

Something similar also happened in reverse to Aer John's bag on a flight from JAX to LAX connecting at ORD. We had left a long connection between the flights for reasons which escape me now. My bag arrived on the flight but his went on an earlier one and we had to play Hunt the Bag at LAX.

I made my connection (VS401 to VS23) but unfortunately only 1 of my 2 bags made it!

LAX staff were horrible and when I finally gave up hope of it arriving I was told she already knew it was not on board and was on her list. When I inquired why she did not tell me so I did not have to wait until the end she said I do not as sometimes they appear! I cannot put here what I was thinking.

I am expecting my bad this evening, however nothing else was offered. Does anyone know if there should be a standard compensation offer?

I lost my bags back in november in Australia. I was flying Qantas from Brisbane-Sydney then Sydney-London.

I made the plane but my bags didnt but what really annoyed me was the agent at the gate had to check as he saw i was from a connecting flight and he said that the bag is onboard
When i arrived in London in and my bag didnt come off the baggage belt i asked at the baggage desk and he said it was still in sydney due to there being extras security checks on it but he said that i should have been informed before we took off.
I got my bag back 2 days later.

Bags did arrive yesterday, sadly it was 2:00am and the delivery man called my phone and rang the door bell waking not only my wife and I but 2 of our 3 children. No updates from VS during the evening as to when the bag would be delivered but a call today at lunch time to ask if it had arrived.

This was really handled badly, I was actually rather shocked just how badly it was handled.

My parents went with AA to New York February last year and was delayed due to snow. My aunt and uncle were with them as well but had to get back to the UK for their daughter's engagement party.

All member of the party were put on standby for several different routes to get back to the UK. these included flying from EWR to Raleigh-Durham (in North Carolina) and then on to LGW. The flight came and there only two available places, so it was decided that my aunt and uncle would take the places.

It wasn't until the plane took off and my parents got back to the AA customer desk, they found out their luggage were on the flight as well.

6 hours later they were on a direct flight to LHR. AA forward their luggage on to them the next day.
