I booked some VS UC flights to Dubai last night and found that Expedia were offering the flights for just under 1170 per person, but virgin-atlantic.com were offering the same flights for over 1300 (nearer 1400) per person. The Expedia fare wasn't an 'Expedia Special' or anything.

Is this common - for virgin-atlantic.com to not be competitive? Not a problem - I booked through Expedia - but just curious.

It always pays to shop around.

I have found the VS website best for my last few flights, but I don't take it as read that it will be the best next time.

Virgin do have price match guarantee, details on their website, but I can't remember reading of many successful claims on here. [;)]

Thanks Nick.

Yes, it definitely always pays to shop around... [:)]

I always try to book direct if I can, but not if it is more expensive [;)]. I thought that there might be a price promise, but a bird in the hand... so went ahead and booked with Expedia anyway.

£1170 sounds low - they may have loaded the wrong fare, which they have been known to do.... [:w]

Funnily enough I looked at that page last night and it was showing SFO as £2200 whereas the fare matrix was showing it as £1399. Today it has been amended and both are showing the lower fare. I'm within a whisker of booking. [:D]

Interestingly, on foot of this thread I looked at the UC fares on Expedia for the same dates. They were showing £3500+ [:0]

Looks like Virgin-atlantic.com loaded their sale fares AFTER Expedia loaded them... wierd [?]

Great deals there though - LA £1399 over high Summer: haven't seem VS that cheap to LA in as long as I have been looking at UC fares (around 2000/2001)

And widespread availability of the fare too - not just the one date combo! Damn - were I not already committed and running out of annual leave that would be very tempting.

Hmmm! Well when I went to book I found that seats weren't available for the dates I wanted so the Expedia fare of £3599 (2xD fares) was the correct one. Needless to say I changed my dates!
