Hi

Travelling LHR-NRT on 5th May and 16th May NRT-LHR on a K class ticket.

Is asking about an upgrade for 20K miles a reasonable request at check in? I would only be interested if a window seat in UC is available otherwise I'd keep my PE window seat.

Does OLCI make such requests more difficult?

Sometimes I've seen loadings for flights; can I get hold of this to see how much UC availbility there is?

In my experience, upgrading from a 'K' class with miles is not allowed, although some people do get lucky. They offer to upgrade it to an 'S' class and use miles OR a cash only upgrade.

Also I would take a window or aisle seat in UC over a window seat in PE, especially on the route you are doing as you will arrive both ends much more relaxed!!!

In 99.999% of cases it WILL involve you laying down some extra cash to move it to an S fare first. THEN you can use your miles.

I attempted to upgrade from a 'K' ticket to UC last week, a couple of days before my flight. In my instance LHR-JFK, it would have cost me $350 to change to an 'S' plus 20k miles. So you will definitely have to part with some cash if you want to do this.

I called the Flying Club and they were able to confirm that there was availability in UC if I wanted to upgrade. I would give Flying Club a call to check on availabilty for your particular flight.

As it was, we decided not to go for the upgrade so you can imagine how happy we were to discover we'd been given an op-up at check-in anyway[y]
