I knew this would happen....received my three 40 fuel surcharge vouchers form Virgin, put them in my travel folder (nothing of use in there only old MO brochures and a Wyndham By Request card) and only just remembered they're there.

I know only one voucher redemption is valid per flight so is there any other way I can get the benefit from these as I've probably only one more flight to book for this year on VS. I'll be left with 80 of unspent moolah.

Can I redeem them against flights paid for and get a rebate, give them to other people, exchange for appletini's?

Any other suggestions...?

Cheers!

Dean

I managed to redeem ours after I booked our Kingston flights earlier this year but before we actually flew. Had to wait a couple of months for the refund but we got it.

In the T&C's:

'Any travel purchased using this voucher must be completed by 31 December 2008 and is subject to the same rules and restrictions of the ticket.'

Hmmm, I do not recall getting any of these. When did you get them?

This was where UK government increased fuel passenger duty and very unusually made it a retrospective change. Anyone who flew afterwards had to pay it regardless of whether they'd bought their tickets beforehand. VS duly obliged but issued a voucher for future use to partly compensate.

I tried to use mine earlier this year, but was told that you can not use them with any offer, upgrade, using miles, etc. Was also told that you can not use them when you book an N class ticket

I dont think you will be able to use them against a booking you have already made (especially if you have already been ticketed) as to use these vouchers, you need to call VS to book your fare (they cant be booked online) as they have to record the voucher number in your PNR. You then need to post the voucher to VS. Once VS verify the voucher they reduce the basic fare cost accordingly and issue your ticket.

That sounds like such a faff....almost as if they've made it like that to put people off actually cashing in the vouchers [:?]

The vouchers can only be used against a published fare, booked directly through VAA, via phone. So no MPM and no 'special deals' arranged through corporate or other channels. I would have thought they could be used against an N class, through, provided it is just a normal 'sale' fare N class??? And no, they cannot be put against an already booked and ticketed reservation. Hope that helps.

That's pretty comprehensive, thanks [:D]
Thine own stupid fault, I've booked about three flights since having them, completely forgetting I had them....

It's only a surcharge after all [:D]

That really gets my goat about VS. you can phone up about something and it all depends who you get. We trust them to be consistant at least, but time and time again the only way to find anything out is to ask the members of the forum.(mind to be fair, I have had the same trouble with AA) So I lost out on using 2x£40 vouchers because I was told that I could not use them by someone that had a very strange accent[n]

We must have been lucky then, as we booked our Jamaica flights on line. We only rang VS a few weeks later to see if they would accept the vouchers after I came across them by accident. Fortunately they did and we saved £120 for the 3 of us.

I can't remember the class we booked but it took about 2 months for the refund to apply.

I picked up 4 vouchers for the above when flying to MCO last year, which some of you may recall was worth £20 for each economy return flight.

I booked flights for this summer late last year and only rediscovered the vouchers when going through some paperwork last weekend. In short I forgot to use them.[:I]

I've emailed VA who have struggled to understand that I had been given the 'gesture' BEFORE booking the new flights and had simply forgotten about them.

I know it's only £80 but it's something to do with the principle etc.....
.....do you think I'm flogging a dead voucher??
