Fellow V-Flyers, would you please assist with a tier point query?

I have just been upgraded to Silver[y], but currently display 0 tier points on 'my account' I am not sure that this is correct. My qualifying flights are as follows.

4th September 2006 Tokyo Econ (1 tier point) This is my 1st Flying Club flight.
16th September 2006 return from Tokyo PE (3 tier points)

2nd September 2007 Orlando PE (3 tier points)
12 September 2007 return from Orlando PE (3 tier points)

8th December 2007 Los Angeles PE (3 tier points)
21st December 2007 return from Los Angeles PE (3 tier points)

9th May 2008 Dubai Upper (5 tier points)
17th May 2008 - return from Dubai PE (3 tier points)

I still think that 2 (or even 5) points should remain. But if September 2007 is removed, I should not have reached Silver. Having phoned and discussed with VS, I am instructed that having 0 tier points is correct and I have not lost any points.

I am also instructed that another 10 points are required before May 2009 to retain Silver. This should not be a problem, but would hate to miss out over 2 missing points.

very grateful for your assistance

Thanks

Jeremy

Have a look at what it says to get Gold - does that include all your TP's? (40-number shown should be your true TP count). On mine the top and bottom TP's don't add up. I think this is due to bad wording rather than a system problem. I think the top wording should be 'you have earned n TP's since your last status change'

Thanks David, your suggestion makes things a lot clearer. 20 points currently required to reach Gold, therefore I currently have 20 points.

I thought Tokyo in econ would have got you 2 TP's anyway because its not a route where N class = 1 TP.

Clarkeysntfc, your correct Ð it was an X class ticket and would have earned 2 points.

Thanks Richard, it now makes more sense. It was the 'balance zeroed down' bit that I have been afraid of.

I had hoped that my 5 points 'over' could have been carried forward so May 08 Ð May 09 would have only need 5 TP. But as your example shows when Mr V Flyer hit gold, he actually lost 6 tier points.

I also take it that a return flight, although 2 legs, can not be viewed as 2 separate flights for TP purposes.

Never mind got me excited about a potentially hitting gold. Still very happy from what I have learned from V-Flyer; never thought I would ever travel Upper. With the knowledge gained from this site, I now understand how upgrades function and hope to upgrade to upper at least once a year.

They are counted as separate legs - so the 3TP you earned for your last flight will go towards your Silver renewal, providing that you have just moved from Red to Silver.

So:

Start at Red.

The Sept 2006 flights are out of range, as you would have needed to get to 15TP by the end of Sept 2007.

2nd September 2007 Ð Orlando PE (3 tier points)
12 September 2007 Ð return from Orlando PE (3 tier points)

Running total = 6TP

8th December 2007 Ð Los Angeles PE (3 tier points)
21st December 2007 Ð return from Los Angeles PE (3 tier points)

Running total = 12TP

9th May 2008 Ð Dubai Upper (5 tier points)

15TP breached with this flight, the excess 2TP are lost for renewal purposes as such but you are now Silver. Requal period has started from 10th May 2008 until 31st May 2009, you need to get to 10TP to requal.

That means, running TP total for Requal as Ag is at 0, but your current running total to make Au is at 17TP.

17th May 2008 - return from Dubai PE (3 tier points)

Running TP total for Requal as Ag is at 3, but your current running total to make Au is at 20TP; so if you can earn another 20TP by the end of Sept 2008, you will make Gold.

Make sense?

Yep, thanks Richard.

20 points by Sept 08 won't happen. My ANZ and SQ flights will only yeild a total of 4 by this time.
