Anyone else having problems with the Virgin site at the moment? I enter my booking number and details and then get a part blank screen or it tells me my details aren't recognised.

I've not been able to view / amend my future booking for a few days now. You can sign into FC, then click on Amend Booking (the same as manually entering the details in effect). You then get the next screen where it shows you details of your flight (date, flight number & route). If you then click on this link to view the details you get the message 'We have been unable to process your request'.

Exactly the same here - but if you enter the booking ref., you do get through to the amend screen.

After I enter my details and click on 'Retrieve Booking' the page loads and I get the menu down the side, but the area to the right that would have the flight details is just blank. I thought it might be a browser issue, but it does the same in IE as Firefox. Hopefully it will work by Monday so that I can check in online.

I was just navigating through my account and was suddenly dumped at http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/holding_en.html, a standard Virgin error page saying the site is down. I can't even get to the homepage anymore.

Why is the site down frequently? Can't be good for business.

Hi
I travelled yesterday on VS001 to Newark.
Prior to the trip I was not able to do an on-line check in - but this did not worry me - frankly there does not seem to be much advantage to this if you have luggage. Now - in the US - I wanted to ammend the booking for the return flight - try to change seating - but I find I cannot retrieve the booking - no matter how I try.
Has anyone had similar problems recently?
Many thanks
P S On passing through Immigration I saw Richard Branson - standing with a crowd of what looked like students - as I passed I complimented him on the pleasant flight - he was really charming and stopped to speak and shake hands etc - I doubt Willie Walsh would do the same.

I will merge this post with the current thread discussing the seemingly endless problems with bookings on the VS website.

There seem to be two seperate problems.
The security certificate is not recognised but this can be ignored.

The retrieve booking function seems to be the major problem.
It appears you can get round this but you must enter your Booking Reference or E-ticket number.
It will not retrieve the booking details from using your FF login.

All

Have had a reply from Virgin Atlantic - they are very aware of the problems on their website and have said that these will be rectified by the 4th June - and thank all v-flyers for bringing it to their attention

Hope that helps.

Now there seems to be a problem with the booking page. I'm trying to get some prices for Dubai. No matter what date this year I input it gives me the same price of £1392 for the cheapest economy fare. Its also telling me over £3,000 for most UC fares and most of November unavailable.
When checking expertflyer.com it shows no availibility and will not show a seat map.

Looking at other airlines their flights are wide open so I'm hoping it's only a technical error.

-Steve

Edited to add can't get a booking with VH neither as it says no flight availability anytime in September [?]

It's not just DXB, it seems to be all flights.

There's something very wrong with the VS booking system as even when you click on the lowest fare on the price matrix, the prices increases more than two fold only giving Y or B economy fares (even for the so called special offers upto the end of June) [:(]

Their GDS system looks to be screwed up as well as Expedia can't even find any VS flights at all.

And this doesn't always work either ...

One another issue, the VS Web site is giving me availability but my corporate travel say my preferred flights are fully booked, ringing FC and they are too!

I've said it before, and I happen to know a little bit about VS's Web systems, they are very poor and desperately need a major overhaul - what we are witnessing is part of this issue.

It's not just the web site, VS's entire booking/GDS system needs updating IMHO as well. You can only add so much to a legacy system until it falls down and says no more.

Newer systems like Amadeus (which many airlines like BA and BMI use) automate many more of the processes which would in the long term save VS money.

I am booked on VS43 2nd July ~ I reserved our seats 2 months ago so was shocked when I went back into my booking today to find I had no seat number assigned ~ I contacted virgin and after a long wait on hold I was told that airport staff had blocked seats H and K rows 62-64, I appreciate that seats can be changed but I was so annoyed that I was not notified via email or phone ~ it was just chance that I went into my booking, so now I have 2 rubbish seats!!

Anyone else any experience of this?

I have merged another thread into this one about ongoing problems with the Virgin Website.

This is also subject of seemingly endless comments on The Dibb. Surely VS must realise that there are a lot of people who will be put off by this string of problems, and will simply not use Virgin again because of it? [n]

Thanks James - I am aware of that too, and this also shows in the information presented via the sites.

have a look at the seat plans on Expertrflyer.
It seems that VS have changed their way of allowing the two seats at the back into general booking.
Only row 61 shows up before 24 hours+ with rows 62-64 now only showing up at 24 hours beofre the flight.
Previously all these rows were available for pre book

I would assume that these seats are always in demand and Virgin are now acting accordingly?

This is going to p**s off siome frequent fliers!

I had 61 H&K and 62 H&K booked for August 12th to MCO. The latter has gone and now the kids are seatless!!!

Unless this is all part of the glitch, Virgin are going to have some upset people when they check in. Not everyone follows every eccentricity on here or the Dibb.

For my part I guess I'll have to do OLCI pretty sharpish and hope the seats are available then.
