Is it worth booking a car? Upper Class sale fare

First post for me......but an avid long time reader!!

Following the demise of SilverJet, which is a shame, as I had flown with them a number of times and always loved the service, I have moved across to Virgin and took advantage of their sale fares.

This will be my first Upper Class trip with Virgin, normally go PE. As I have a cheap fare, no car included, but I want to experience the new drive thru check in.

If I book a car with my reward miles - will it take me into the check in, or just to T3?

Thanks

Welcome to V-Flyer, glad to have you on board.

Yes, if you book a CDC using miles and are in UC they will take you to the new wing.

I'm sorry to disappoint you but if you booked your ticket as part of the Upper Class fare sale then you will not be eligible for a CDC even by using miles as you will have a Z fare. Only J and D fares are entitled to have a CDC and the only other exception is when you upgrade to a G fare and can therefore use miles to book a car.

Check on your e-ticket if you have a Z fare and if so, then I'm afraid you are out of luck

I have never understood why VA exclude Z class from booking a CDC with miles. There usually such a high price difference between Z and D or J there virtually no chance of anybody booking D/J over Z just to get the CDC. At 12500 for a single trip it is not the most cost effective use of miles - which is to VA's relative benefit.

It has been known, on more than one occasion. [:I]

And I think the CDC service paid for with miles and associated with a reward upgrade is far more restricted in the counties it covers that the CDC service associated with J and D fares.

NB If you book a reward fare using miles (G) then you can book a CDC with miles - I know HL meant this but I read the reply as 'upgrading' i.e. from a W or S to a G with miles ... which is interesting ... if you do this after paying for PE then you're in G and presumably you can book a CDC with miles too???

Yep you can book a CDC with miles as long as you are booked on a G, whether it's a full reward or upgrade from say an L or S doesn't matter.

Thanks for that, slinky. I forget that people also book reward flights. [:I]
