OK, I know that often the seat map is withdrawn in the weeks / months prior to a flight as only so many % of seats are available for pre-allocation. This was the case for today's VS12, no problem as we had pre assigned seats from last year when we booked. However last night when we did OLCI for our PE VS12 this evening, and wanted to change the seat of one of party members, the system said something along the lines of 'seat map not available, there are no available seats to choose from'. Fine, but Expertflyer shows the flight as wide open, ie. 7's in all classes except W,S,K which shows as 4. Surely if VS are still selling PE seats there are seats to select from when doing OLCI?

Cheers
James

PS: Still hoping for miles upgrades to G - will try at Logan tonight as Flying Club couldn't do anything on the phone!

Funny enough I checked our upcoming flights to LAX and from SFO last night and the SFO flight was not allowing me to view our seat choices. Knowing that in the past this has been due to a schedule or plane change I rang FC to be told there were no changes and we still had the seats we'd previously selected.

I'd put it down to a software glitch and as you say try to do your upgrade at the airport.

The last couple of times we have done OLCI when we have clicked to view the seat map it has said that is is unavailable. To be fair our flights were full so I just presumed this was the reason but maybe it is a more serious glitch? Probably worth mentioning in an email to VS when you get back.

there may still be seats for 'sale' but for some routes, they oversell the cabins. If all seats available are already allocated, this would prevent any changes at OLCI. (regardless of the fact they may still be selling seats! Go figure!)

annoying that our return leg SFO to LHR in PE still doesn't give us the option to pre-request seating (assume they've not allocated the aircraft yet), either way other than getting online exactly 48hrs before the flight, we can't dib our seat preference?

If you have not been given the option of selecting seats then it is because only 40% are available for pre-allocation. The rest become available when OLCI opens (assuming that the glitch on the seat maps has been sorted which was the subject of this thread) 24 hours before the flight, not 48

Just to say, it is actually 60% that are available for pre-allocation, and the remaining 40% open up at OLCI (apart from bulkheads and Exit rows).

How long ago did you book your flight? You usually get the option to select your seats straight away and it takes a really full flight usually for the pre-allocation to be full. I doubt it will be due to an a/c change because LAX is always a 346 and SFO a 744.

The only thing you could try is giving FC a call to see if they can pre-allocate you anything, but if they can't then your only option left is to do OLCI 24 hours before your flight, as HL mentioned.

Thanks, Neil. I got called away halfway through typing that and ended up saying the opposite to what I intended. [:I] Of course, if I had proof-read.....

Thanks, Booked a while back, and instantly had option to allocate the outgoing, but the SFO-LHR leg has always been unavailable..
Might try ringing FC, failing that OLCI before hand. However if we were to try and blag exit/ bulkhead seats assume need to go to counter on the day..
Bulkhead or normal in PE ?(bit more room on the bulkheads but annoying dangly videoscreen)

Yes Bulkhead/Exit row can only be allocated at the airport.

Your choice as to where to sit, but as you the say the bulkheads have the PVT's in the arms so the seats are slightly wider.

Wider, as in bum space..?
on the LHR-LAX We've ended up at the back,22H & K loos behind us, (worried the incline will be restricted and noise)- however better than sat in middle..
Going to try asking at LHR

When I said wider, what I really meant is narrower [:I] So to clarify the bulkhead seats give you less bum space!
