VS010 14th June Redirected

Anyone know why VS010 has been redirected to Dublin and why a lot of the evening flights from JFK were extremely late leaving?

It is probably due to the severe storms that have hit New York last night and causing flight chaos.

The only reason (that I can think of) for a diversion to DUB, would be a medical diversion, unless there was a last minute change due to the wonder that is the pax on Air Force One landing at LHR!

Most medical diversions go to SNN rather than Dublin.

It's listed on the LHR arrivals board as coming from New York Via Dublin so looks to have been planned, possibly due to the havoc that Air Force One is unleashing on every other flight in the area!

Some of the BA flights from USA have been heavily delayed by the weather and/or diverted. EG BA182 which a colleague is on is delayed by c23hours from JFK. I am at LHR at the moments and AF1 has not caused the forecasted delays and flights seem to be running to time (well from/to T5 anyway).

I had the misfortune (or maybe not) to be on VS46 from JFK last night. We pushed back on time at 1940 and joined the 40 or so planes waiting to depart. We then experienced a severe thunderstorm that lasted for some 3 hours. We were on board for 5 hours before we finally departed. The crew were brilliant throughout. They fed and watered everyone before we finally departed. I think also that we were lucky, because the captain had warned us that they were running out of duty hours, so we escaped just in time. Oh and after all this, when we arrived at heathrow we were put on a remote stand and bussed to the terminal.

If the crew of the 46 were in danger of running out of hours, I wonder if that's what happened to the 10 - that they didn't have enough hours to get to LHR [:?]

Severe weather behind it all - I wonder whetehr the VS010 needed to make a fuel stop after being on the ground for hours taxiing.

Wow - just goes to show that any problems in the NYC area causes havoc for the airlines. It reminds me all too well of our cancelled flight last June because of thunder storms.

It seems strange that the 10 would stop at DUB for fuel, I thought that each a/c had a reserve to solve any problems like this?. How much fuel does an a/c use whilst taxing? If the 46 was on the taxi ways for 5 hours and still managed to make it back then surely the 10 which would have a similar type of delay should be able to manage it too?

A few years ago we were flying VA LHR to MIA.
We had to land in the Bahamas because we were running low on fuel & if we had had to circle we wouldn't have had enough.
I was informed that we had had to fly at approx 28,000 ft instead of approx 33,000ft because of busy skies.
