The FO have the following on the travel advice page for the UAE:

There is a high threat from terrorism. We believe terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the UAE. Attacks could be indescriminate and could happen at any time, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers such as residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests. You should maintain a high level of security awareness, particularly in public places.

A little unsettling but you could spend your entire life cowering at home if you took notice of every such warning I guess!

Wonderful[ii]. Flying our to DXB in 12 days time!

Oh well, we shall just have to be extra vigilante.

On a separate issue, I have read on another forum that recent trips to DXB in UC were very unsatisfactory. Dirty TV monitors, i.e. food smeared on screens), crumbs all over seating, spillages/stains on seating and food below standard. Three individual reports on different dates. I am now wondering what to expect on my flight.[:?]

Worth remembering that for about 20 years the UK was considered high risk by the American's.

They strongly advised against travel to Northern Ireland and one time London during the height of the IRA bombing campaign. If you don't travel, the terrorists win.

I do hope it's not a common occurrence, I'm looking forward to the trip and if its like that I'll be very unhappy [V]
