MpM - why only for UK origin tickets?

Hi all,
Just wondering really ... I tried to get a quote for an MpM return fare from PVG-LHR-PVG. It seems you can only book UK origin tickets on MpM. Is this a temporary thing?

Thanks

I've tried it many times in the last few years and it never works. I have a vague memory that calling FC and booking did result in success, but I may be mistaken.

Cheers for the reply. I phoned FC however they agreed that MpM is only available for certain origins - seems to be UK and US mainly. [n]

You're not missing out on much, to be fair. MpM fares never seem to be a huge saving - if any - over the lowest available bucket class (and they only seem to be available when those cheap fares are too anyway), but they are very restricted - so it's difficult, if not impossible, to do an airport upgrade and they cost you miles rather than earn you some for the small delta in cost saving you make.

As an example, I randomly looked up a flight to New York, flying out on the 12th Jan, returning on the 19th Jan (so you include the all-important Saturday night). MilesPlusMoney fare is £472 plus 5000 miles per adult. The N class fare on the same flights is £472, but it earns you 3458 base miles (more if you're Silver or Gold, obviously).

It does kind of make the whole MpM fares a bit of a joke.

Cheers Pete, but the fare I'm looking for is for Caroline's dad - who will travel long haul about once every 3 years! I'm trying to persuade him to fly VS and not MU as the VS flight date is much better! A sweetner would be to get £100 or so off with just 2k miles. So, with the idea in my head I checked online and by phone and lo and behold MpM isn't available from Asia.
Currently it looks like MU will get his business instead.
