Just wondering... we were booked on a Z class flight earlier this month, but when we got to the airport and went through security anf stuff, the virgin staff took our (pre-printed) boarding passes and said they wanted to re-issue them. This they did, but I noticed our new passes displayed J class - which I think denotes full price or something? Would this make any difference to the number of miles earned on that leg of the flight???

no I'm afraid not! Boarding passes always show simply J, W or Y. That way you can be guaranteed a consistent CC service as they can't tell the difference between PAX, FF number aside.

Glad somebody asked that as I was thinking the same thing the other day!

Isn't another reason for the 'international standard' F / J / W / Y class codes to assist airport security?

Many airports have security lanes for passengers in premium cabins - not all airlines issue 'fast-track' [or similar] stickers on boarding passes. If all airlines adopt the internationally recognised class codes on boarding passes, this does mean that the security screeners only have to know 3 class code letters at most for the pax they should be letting though the 'fast track' lane.

I remember when I was travelling on a UK Domestic flight with Loganair + BA... there were all sorts of delays and about three rebookings, and my boarding cards showed C class, so I was all set for bonus miles and tier points. It was not to be... ;)
