QUALITY OR QUANTITY ?

I was thinking about all these airlines going broke and the amount of flights that wont be operating anymore, and so it begs the question will prices go up for flights with less competition around?
Im sure the answer is obviously yes prices will go up!
But this is what i want to know?
If aviation fuel is coming down and flight prices rise, then BA & VS can start to recouperate lost revenue in this turmoil.
Will we see standards rise for flight food?, breakfast in the morning for Y rather than a muffin?[:$], will the inflight massager come back into UC etc etc?.

I think most airlines will suddenly find their new money-saving service to be just what the bean counters ordered, and won't start spending for quite some time... and while I'm on, I think the 'credit crunch' is being used as an excuse for all kinds of unpleasant decisions...

We said the same thing about some of the post 9/11 cutbacks, but it is difficult to agree with that statement the day after Britain's fourth largest tour operator goes under with thousands of stranded passengers stranded and thousands of lost jobs.

If the credit crunch was just 'an excuse' XL would still be trading.

These things happen in cycles, in the 70s we had Clarksons, then in the early 90s ILG (Intasun, Air Europe etc.) collapsed and now we have XL. I'm not convinced that XL were strong enough with or without a 'credit crunch'.

It was due to Clarksons that ATOL Protection came into being.

As time has moved on and a move away from package holidays, people have forgotten why the fund was created in the first place. Perhaps the time is to once again ensure that consumers are protected.

My heart felt sympathy goes out to the staff and all those who have had their holiday dreams shattered and it has brought home to me the need to make sure I am fully protected in the future - and accept that this will have to come at a cost.

VH now make the point of stating that you are covered by ATOL protection on all their invoices. It's been on them for a few months now.

It reads:

£1.00 per person of this holiday package is paid to the CAA to provide ATOL protection to you. Thhis means the money paid for these arrangements is fully protected
