Should I transfer Amex points

1st post - please be gentle with me!

I've been saving my Amex points for an agen now and am wondering if I should transfer to Virgin. I've got around 150,000 and I understand there is a 15% bonus if I transfer before end of September.

Now, the daft qustion; will this number of points get us a cpl of flights (in UC) to New York for example and is there a massive amount of taxes to pay?

Hi, and welcome [y]

Unfortunately, you'll fall *just* short. 15% added on to your 150,000 = 172,500. You'd need 180,000 to fly two people return to New York.

You could always use the 'buy miles' option to get the other 7,500 (8,000 in increments of 1,000) and then you're set. Taxes/fees will be *around* £240 per ticket.

Welcome to the site Misu.
I think the taxes will be around the £300+ mark (each)at the moment. If you do a dummy booking you'll get the exact tax and surcharge cost.

For a west coast G, I just paid £358 taxes and fees (not including booking fee).

Is the AMEX point transfer just for UK AMEX customers, I can't find reference to it on the US site?
