Upgrading a PE Reward

Hi all,
We're flying back from JFK early November and currently have reward seats booked in PE as there were no Gs available when we booked and still aren't (I checked on VS this morning) although there seems to be lots of availability in other classes.

My questions are:

If there are seats free how likely is it that we could upgrade at the airport or even better could we phone FC before getting to the airport and upgrade?

Thanks

Ah, one of the most common questions on V-Flyer [:D]

My experience has been that if you get the right agent at check-in and the flight is wide open that they will normally try and get you that reward upgrade as they'll know that they are unlikely to sell many more seats at that stage. As you are on reward seats there are no issues for elligibility so it should be straightforward. The only problem is when the agent at check-in isnt familiar with processing miles upgrades, and I have found some staffers at JFK to misunderstand the rules and processes.

I'd try calling Flying Club before you head to the airport to see if any G's have opened up. If not, do try at the airport, and good luck [y].

Thanks,
Sarah

Well, yesterday was our lucky day. Checked on line and VS had released some Gs on the VS10 for our return date. While this leaves a lot later than the VS4 which we were booked on we decided we could eat in the clubhouse and sleep on the plane, or at least try, and of course have breakfast in Revivals. So I called the Premier Team and got the upgrades on this flight sorted and the amended etickets arrived this morning[:D].

Trouble is this is our second trip in a row fully UC so is now becoming a bit of a habit and is going to be make going back to PE difficult. As we're waiting to see if VS have sale on for our next planned trip back to NY in February I've already decided it's going to be in UC but not sure if the other half will be convinced if it's really expensive so I think a 'better than usual' Christmas Present is in order[}:)].

Oh, what a harsh and cruel world this is[:w].

Result on the G's [y][y]

You are not the first on this site to become addicted to sitting in the comfy seats at the front of the plane, and I am sure you won't be the last. [:D][;)]

V-Flyer has a LOT to answer for. [:w]

Did they charge you an extra fee for the additional fuel surcharge for Upper?

Scally, I upgraded a pay PE with miles yesterday for SFO-LHR. They told me I would have to pay the extra tax at SFO tomorrow.

No because we'd already paid that when we upgraded our outbound flights.
