Hi,
Can anyone tell me how many weeks/months one needs left on their passport when travelling the U.S or is this not an issue as long as it's in date?

The VS web site answer is...

Passport or passport replacing docs. must be valid for at
least 6 months beyond the date of departure from the U.S.A.

How long have you got left and can you get a new one before you go?

Would be leavung the US on 27/10/08, My passport runs out on 28/4/09
So I guess I made it by a day[:0]!!! That was lucky

If you got a new one before you go, the extra 6 months would be added on to the new passport

It's pushing it a bit doing one now.

I'd do an ESTA application, see if that lets you in, not that it has any effect at the moment, but it should go by the same rules.

No, if your passport is not valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure from the United States, it will not affect your eligibility to travel. The United States has an agreement with the United Kingdom automatically extending the validity of a passport for six months past the passport's expiration date. Therefore, your passport need remain valid only for the duration of your stay in the United States.

If you are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program and your passport is not valid for 90 days, you will be admitted into the United States until the date on which the passport expires.

Well, I never knew that!

I didn't know that either - I just renewed my passport for an upcoming trip but needn't have worried!

Talking of which, should I expect anything different at Immigration in the US when using my new Passport? I mean, will they recognise that I'm travelling under a different passport?

Just remember to update your APD information on the VS website with the new passport number. Even if you dont, it will just get updated when your show it at check-in.

I would think that all your re-newed passport numbers will be linked in the immigration system as border authorities need to know your previous travel details.

Passports are indeed linked - they still refer back to my expired L1 Visa in my old passport when I go through immigration sometimes...
