Hi,

Just found this site and loving how in-depth it is, although think I'm suffering from information overload at the moment!

We're off on my honeymoon on Monday 10th Nov flying out on VS019 9.30 from LHR-SFO.

I've been checking a few review websites and have been a bit dismayed with some of the reports coming back on the quality of the aircraft, service etc.

Would anyone have any info on the aircraft we'll probably be flying on, whether it's had an upgrade, whether it's worth upgrading to PE, any other advice on how to ensure a good flight?

Appreciate this is probably a lot to ask but any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to V-Flyer, hope you find the site useful.

You will be flying on a LHR 747, on the seat maps page it is config 4. These a/c have V-Port IFE system, and have been upgraded and now have the new PE seats all on the main deck and UC all upstairs.

As to whether it is worth upgrading to PE, well that is only something you can answer depending on how much the cost is and if you think it is worth it. You will get the full PE service and the new purple leather seats. For me the main benefit of PE is the extra leg room which on a long flight is very nice and should make it a comfortable journey and easier to sleep on the way back.

Re what you have read about poor service etc. Hopefully you should have an excellent crew and receive the correct service, if you experience poor service or are not happy about something you should mention it to the FSM during the flight so it can be resolved. I seriously wouldn't worry about it too much. I have flown all 3 classed on Virgin and never received a poor standard of service.

Hope you have a great flight and a super honeymoon. We have just come back from SFO & Las Vegas for our honeymoon type holiday and it was fantastic.

Thanks for the advice Neil.

We fly onto Hawaii then back from Vegas with Virgin again and can't wait!

I'm going to investigate the upgrade cost and totally take on board that 'to upgrade or not to upgrade' is subjective.

Thanks,

Chris

Not sure where you get the bad reports on VS19. I've flown this probably 40 times in the last 9 years, and the Virgin service has always been good to very good.

It's consistent, mainly in my view because the staff actually like SF as a destination. Whenever I speak to them there is always excitement about what they are going to do in SF etc. This rubs off in the level of service they give.

There is a good mix between business travelers and those going there on holiday, and that also helps give it a different atmosphere to the more typical holiday destinations.

Whether it's worth upgrading to PE or not, I do not know, it kind of depends on what ticket fare you purchased, as the costs could be quite high if you bought a very cheap, restricted Economy ticket.

Having said that, a friend recently got married, told Virgin they were on their honeymoon, and they got a free upgrade to PE.

It is my epeprience on this route, that PE is usually very full for 2 reasons :

1) They oversell Economy, hoping people will buy upgrades to PE
2) A lot of business travelers choose PE to head to the US, and UC on the way back.

Contragulations

Regards

Mark

P.S I'll be on this route on the 4th Nov, so I'll post a TR when I get there.
