I'm flying MAN-ORD-DEN with BMI/UA in December.
Reading the FC pages on the VS website, it seems as if I can now claim FC miles when flying with BMI. Is that correct?

I've only flown with BMI once before, several years ago, and joined Diamond Club then but am unlikely to ever accumulate enough DC miles to be of any use. As I recall, at that time FC miles weren't an option when flying BMI.

If I can now claim FC miles with BMI, can I do it by showing my card at check-in? I've tried to have my FC number added to the booking but I booked through an online travel agent and they haven't been able to do it, which means only my DC number is showing. They suggest I contact BMI direct. However, the reason I booked this flight through an agent was because it proved impossible to do it direct with BMI, mostly due to the language difficulties.

(The MAN-ORD leg is in PE, ORD-DEN in economy. The BMI online booking system does not allow for this. I tried to book by phone several times but BMI Reservations insisted variously that it could not be done and even that the flight did not exist, despite my giving them the flight numbers. When I faxed a UK number they eventually replied 2 weeks later quoting a price higher than the full return journey in Business! Meantime I found a travel agent website where it was very easy to book exactly what I wanted online and at a reasonable price.)

So, phoning BMI about this is not an option. Life is too short!

Yup, when you check in just hand over your FC card and ask them to switch the number. I have done this at T1 multiple times when I have taken a flight with Bmi that is a full Y to benefit from the TPs.

please remember if it is a codeshare flight with UA, it will not qualify to earn miles.

The MAN-ORD leg is BMI so I should hopefully get FC points. The ORD-DEN leg is a codeshare with UA so I'm not sure whether I'll get points on my DC account or my UA account. Not that it really matters because I'll never accumulate enough with either of them to be worth anything!

What BMI (domestic) fare codes give VS TPs?

I tried to find this out recently, and couldn't find anything other than VS's website ('0 for economy <2000 miles, 1 for business <2000 miles')

You need to book a flexible economy fare (which is booked in Y) or a business class fare to gain tier points from a Bmi flight. I have flown on a few full fare economy flights and gained a tier point each way.

Not exactly a good cost-per-TP ratio, but great if the company is paying!
Would anyone mind if I spend some NHS money on expensive BMI flights ..?!!!!

Yes, business farers included. The flights can be expensive but its a bonus for you personally if your employer is picking up the bill and for short notice travel its a nice benefit.
